How to finish homework fast

If you find yourself procrastinating and dragging your homework out all night... try this. It will increase your productivity so much it's amazing.

Turn off your computer. Turn off your cellphone. Eliminate distractions. Start a timer for 50 minutes, and during that time, do nothing but focus on what's in front of you. After this 50 minute period, take a 10 minute break (but don't turn on your computer/phone, etc). Get a light snack or stretch. Then go back in for another 50 minute period, or however long it takes for you to finish your homework for the day.

Turn on your computer, phone, etc, and enjoy the rest of the 6+ hours of your evening homework-less :)

You'll find yourself getting ahead on everything, and your school life will be a lot less stressful. You might even find yourself having less homework every day since you'll be plowing through it as it comes to you, rather than letting it pile up. I know it helped me.

gives you a sensation of productivity right, especially me cause I have a terrible work ethic

kool story brah.

Wow! You’re like some academic god!!!

not. dude this is CC. We’ve been beasting hw up since the early to mid 90’s.

thanks for the advice :)

Sometimes I just find it more convenient to procrastinate first and get homework done after dinner…easier said than done to start homework at 3-4pm, and I’m more ‘into it’ in the evening. What I do personally is just bribe myself with music to start it–once I start homework it’s not hard at all to keep going and concentrate to get it done (no breaks unless I actually get hungry in the middle, which is rare). The lazy part comes in starting it.

We all consciously know this already…many of us just choose not to listen.
And agreed, the hardest part about HW is getting it started. Once you do, it’s pretty much downhill from there.

If you just hit the power off button on your computer, it pretty much forces you to start, for those of you having trouble on that front

Yeah, there are just a couple of problems:

Some work has to be done on a computer.

There are other temptations - I’m sick today, but normally I’d much rather go outside for a run than do my more boring assignments.

Some work is just so hopelessly unpleasant that I can’t imagine doing it for 50 minutes straight.

This is why I do my hw at school in the library. its quiet, no distractions, and when my friends are there we do the hw together and it gets done faster.

Honestly, I haven’t done homework in years. I do essays and thats about it. Instead of doing homework pay attention in class… works for me

Yeah, homework that requires a computer = you’re f**ked.

When homework requires a computer, I end up going online to youtube or something :P

I have Cross Country practice after school so after I take a shower I’m relaxed, with my computer off. I can finish it in about 15 minutes, but I like to work ahead.

Haha everyone’s a pessimist. I’m trying to give to the community but everyone just tries to find flaws in it. Kinda funny :P

Here’s a better way:
Next time you’re trying to concentrate on homework (or essays…) notice where you get distracted. Make a list of these things, and figure out how to eliminate them. Then, create a gameplan for doing homework.

For some, it involves turning off the computer so that you aren’t tempted to go onto youtube or facebook. For some, it involves going to the library so that you aren’t distracted by family members or friends. Figure out what works for you, and it will help you tremendously.

Most distractions give off a butterfly effect; one action leads to another, to another, until you’re off track and forgot how you got there. Going to the source and eliminating the distraction will improve your focus and efficiency.

I can’t shut off my cell phone or get off of Facebook in case someone needs to contact me with something important. If a friend wants to hang out, that takes priority over homework and I don’t want to miss it.

FiNISH.HOMEWORK.FAST

For me, homework and the rest of my activities have engaged in a really wild power struggle. It’s frustrating. But whatever. I just soldier through and get the homework done.

Anyway, I find that my best plan is to determine the amount of time each assignment (and sometimes, each part of an assignment) will take. Once I figure that out, I figure out what I have to do that night, and then I “plug” the assignments in between the commitments. I also used to make really good use of lunchtime (not that I’ll be able to this year!); I’d always “plug” an assignment in there.

the thing is, i only have 2 hours of hw to do before 10:00pm. cuz i have regular school work, and ap physics, apbio, and ap chem work thats outside of school that i needa do as well. and those classes take up so much time

You guys are good. Strong determination.
I should really start actually practice what I should. What’s your main motivation?
