How to fix sleeping problem?

Okay so I've had a sort of "sleeping in class" issue all through high school. No, it's not out of laziness, no, it's not out if boredom in my class, and no it's not due to inadequate sleep (most of the time). I just fall asleep. Through high school, I would fall asleep in my English class and science classes (all taught by energetic teachers that really got me to like the subject) but stay awake during math and history (my most hated subjects also taught by the worse teachers). I've fallen asleep after 10 hours of sleep, 7 hours of sleep, and 3 hours of sleep. I can't pinpoint my problem or find a solution. Can anyone give me advice on how to fight this??? Google hasn't helped me much either...

You should be tested for narcolepsy.

You might have a form of sleep apnea- where you aren’t able to get enough uninterrupted deep sleep. Usually in older, overweight folks, but you may have a minor septal (inside the nose) defect or extra tissue that presses down on windpipe while lying down. Talk to your family doctor and get checked out.

Narcolepsy!!! LOL

You probably should check it out to see if it’s a medical issue. Could also be psychological in response to a trigger. For example, sometimes a certain smell or the sound of a certain voice will trigger falling asleep. I know when I’m listening to a speech or taking a class certain voices cause me to doze off. Monotone, especially, no matter how enthusiastic the person is about the subject.

My husband dozes off every time he smells incense (a throw back to his days at Sunday Mass!).

So if it’s not a medical problem, see if you can figure out what triggers it – that will be the first step in resolving the problem.

From your post it also sounds like this might partially be the result of an inconsistent sleep schedule. Do you sleep roughly the same amount each night, at roughly the same time? If not, then that might be a factor as well.
