So, I’m taking my last two 5 credit classes to finish up my associate’s degree from community college this summer and I’m taking my first exclusively online class (I’ve taken hybrid classes in the past). The prof. for this online history class grades where only a 100% is a 4.0 and after reading his syllabus it appears he offers no extra credit. Right now I have 80 credits toward my degree and a 4.0 and I’m adamant about making sure I finish this degree with a 4.0.
Today is the first day of the quarter and I am wondering if I should take this class or try for another. If there was someway to make sure I get a 100% that would be ideal, but seeing as I can’t afford to miss 1 point I’m not so certain it’s possible.
After checking my prof.'s score on ratemyprofessor it appears he grades on this scale for all his classes. I’ve taken a class in the past that required at least a 97% for a 4.0 but my prof. offered lots of extra credit. I’ve also taken a class that considered a 93% a 4.0. Generally, most classes used the standard >/=95% = 4.0. Do you think this is worth taking up with administration, or should I drop it?
I mean the 4.0 doesn’t really matter, and you’re almost done, so practically it doesn’t matter. If it means that much to you personally, switch to another class. Agreed that it seems ridiculous, but probably not worth the effort.
My advice is to finish up the degree with whatever classes fulfill the requirements for graduation and fit into your schedule… Nobody will care if you graduate with a 4.0 or a 3.9+
On the other hand, having this high a scale for an “A” might mean that the class is easy.
Also you could talk to your advisor or Dean and see if this is consistent with the colleges grading scheme.
