The biggest thing is to practice. You don’t need to pay for prep classes unless you need the initiative to actually study.

I took the SATs twice (November and June) actually did better the second time WITHOUT studying because I was more relaxed and the intensity of my junior year had prepared me so much better than any SAT class ever would.

If you haven’t already, buy a couple of sat prep books (I recommend Kaplan/Princeton because they have tips and tricks and also the collegeboard sat study guide). Sit down a couple hours over the weekend or whenever you have time and just practice. The pacing on the test is absolutely key. Do at least two full-length tests with the timing and everything before you take the actual test.

Writing is easiest to improve/get a good score on. Review your grammar rules from participles and subject-verb agreement. These rules should become second nature (especially in your English class).

Math is easy as well to improve. If you’ve taken up to precalculus (even Algebra 2 is fine) then you should be good. Just watch the wording and make sure you’re using the right equation.

Reading was always hard for me, but if you’re good at analyzing tone or voice, you are good. Read online magazines and articles (mostly editorials) and get a sense of what the authors are saying (their main point, etc.). Look for Wall Street Journal, New York Times, LA Times, etc.

For the Math and Writing sections, questions are ranked in order of difficulty by question type. For example, in Writing, the questions are ranked in order of difficulty (from easy to hard) in the sentence completion, and then again in the choosing the error. So for questions 1 to 12, it will go from easy to hard, and then from questions 13 to 28, it will go from easy to hard again. Same thing for the Math section. I believe the only part of Writing this doesn’t happen is the last part, where you read the paragraph. —> So basically for Math and Writing, do the first questions of each types of questions, because these are the easier ones and you can get points for them.
