What are they looking for in an applicant btw? What can give me an edge over other applicants? Do summer film camps help??

PLEASE HELP AND ANSWER MY QUESTIONS!! IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Hey! I’m a student at the cinema school right now, and though the odds can be extremely daunting, if you put in a lot of effort you’ll be fine, I think.

The best thing you can do is make movies. Basically be as prolific as you can. They look for both technique and content, but primarily they’re looking for creativity and potential. They’re not going to knock you down a few points if you don’t have a professional quality camera, for instance, but learning about framing, composition, etc can’t hurt. Also, write scripts - whether it’s for films you’re going to make or just to put down ideas. The main thing they’re looking for in an applicant is talent, so your work samples are the most important part.

Summer film camps, from what I’ve heard, are definitely helpful. The school of cinematic arts actually has one every summer, and a bunch of people who go here attended it. Another thing you could try to do is get an internship. Find a movie, TV, or advertising studio near where you are and see if they take summer internships.

Hope that helps! Sorry it was kind of vague, but if you have any more questions, shoot.

oh my gosh! i am just now seeing this! THANK YOU. umm, yeah i have a lot of questions…but i really want to know what you did in high school (what classes did you take, competitions, summer programs, extracurriculars, etc.) and i would really like to know how the environment is at USC SCA. oh my gosh i realllyy want to go there!
