So how do you guys do it? Whenever I try, my teachers always get mad for not paying attention.

Haha I get away with this all the time.

Don’t bury your face in your book and never look up at the board. Constantly glance up and act like you’re paying attention and taking notes, when in reality you’re doing homework. Once you get good at this, you’ll be able to write without looking at what you’re writing, so instead of glancing up, you’ll just have to glance down every once in a while.

However, if the homework requires a lot of focus, do it in your free time. I usually only do busywork homework during class, such as vocab, chapter outlines, etc.

I generally only do busywork homework during class, stuff that I don’t have to put thought into. So I just do my homework in class and listen to my teacher at the same time. If it’s not convenient for you to do both, just don’t do your homework in class because it’s important to learn from your homework.

Yeha, SwaGGeRer’s got it down. Basically, pretend like you’re taking notes. Glance up, make eye contact with the teacher, nod your head, and even pay attention for thirty seconds and ask a question. Stay after class and talk to them. Overall, pay attention in class, and just do your HW in class every now and then. But when you do, be discreet.

i thought that’s what homeroom was for? :P

Homeroom is 10 minutes long…

@ joSHcasto: haha I’m seeing you everywhere man. But yea, I agree. Asking questions is KEY. If you ask questions and make eye contact they might actually believe that you’re taking notes. Or they’ll just be satisfied that you’re paying some attention and leave you alone.

Hey, nothing better to do at 1:30 AM on a restless Saturday night.

HAHAHA. It’s 10:30 around here. But I guess we’re both losers for spending Saturday nights on CC rather than hitting it up at some party eh? Whatever, we’re cool :(

Oh, I partied last night. Today I did some cleaning, HW, and went to the movies. Low-key.

haha same here. Technically it was a sleepover but it was pretty wild. I didn’t get an ounce of sleep yesterday. The music was blasting, etc…I have such a headache. But yea, now that we’ve both proved that we have lives, I think I’ll contribute something useful to this thread ;)

I never do HW in my math class or english class because these are the teachers I get recs from And they would never allow hw in class. Choose your periods wisely. My bio teacher is a joke. She hovers over me doing my hw all the time and says nothing. I ask questions, take notes, and have a 103% in that class. At this point, she doesn’t even care anymore. So excel in their class, and they usually can’t do anything about it. Unless she actually docks points for participation. In this case you can usually make up for it by asking questions, getting involved in class discussions, etc.

Only do math homework, physics problems, grammar worksheets, other things that don’t require much thinking.

You won’t be able to pull off your English essay or your history reading.

There is some skill in being able to write without looking. Some people can do it better than others, and if you aren’t naturally talented at it then it is difficult to learn. Although what I’ve never been able to figure out is how a friend of mine (who could well be the most gifted person in existance) can do two pieces of homework in different subjects at the same time, writing one out with his left hand and one out with his right hand. THAT takes skill.

I always do my homework during history class (first period) 90% of the history teachers in my school are so lax! I do no work and pass with 95%+ (I made an A+ first semester). They really don’t care…

Otherwise I go ‘loaner’ mode at lunch and ignore everyone and sit in a room with no one to do homework. I generally finish it all before a class starts though so loaner mode doesn’t happen to often.

Maybe not English, but I’ve done APUSH HW in school. Much harder, though.

Multitask. Do HW while listen to the lectures at the same time.

I usually read my English Sparknotes in French class. My teacher haaaates it! :(

What the heck.

In my county, all middle and high school students are given laptops for the school year. It is really easy to get on your computer and say you are taking notes or looking up something the teacher said that you don’t understand to play games or do homework. Plus, teachers know we have homework to do and as long as you get good grades and don’t disrupt the class, most don’t care what you do.

You should do homework in a class where the teacher won’t care. I do homework in French, English, or Human Geo. Usually, my HW doesn’t take too much concentration, so if I’m in Human Geo, where I actually take notes, I can still take them.
You also shouldn’t always do your homework in the same class because then the teacher will start to think you don’t care about the class.
