How to get internships from school without hospital/clinic?

I'm planning to attend UCB this fall and am going to change my major into biochemistry to pursue the pharmacy route. With this in mind, UCB doesn't have a hospital like other UCs, and I'm sure I need a internship to make it into a pharmacy school. How would I go about getting some work exp. or an internship?

Maybe you could take the PTCB national exam and get a job as a certified pharmacy technician to boost your app. S took the exam (skimmed the study guide for the exam at Barnes & Noble) and passed before he entered a 6-yr pharmD program this fall. Being a certified pharm tech would also open doors for internships/jobs in retail, hospital, research. You can get licensed in CA if you are 18, hs grad, and pass the exam.

You can't be a pharmacy intern until you are a pharmacy student. By legal definition a pharmacy intern is a current pharmacy student.

You can't be a legitimate pharmacy intern, but you can certainly substantiate your interest in the profession by employment as a certified/licensed pharmacy tech prior to applying to pharmacy school. The adcoms would know that you are familiar with the field and have some basis for choosing pharmacy as a profession! There are many other internships in the allied health science fields that do not require pharmacy intern licensing. (We know of one UCLA student who will be doing a paid internship at Johns Hopkins this summer.)
