Hi, I graduated from UCLA with a 3.82 in biology, but I've decided that I really want a career in finance.

I want to attend a top 5 MBA program in the near future (programs like Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Columbia). Ideally, my post MBA career would be in investment management.

What sort of jobs do you think would be good for a biology major to take to get into those MBA programs?

One girl just graduated from the Harvard MBA Class of 2012 who holds a biology degree from UCLA. While I can’t speak to her post-graduation plans, I can tell you that she completed her MBA summer internship in investment banking at Morgan Stanley.Prior to her MBA, she worked for 4 years as a biotech research associate and then was promoted as a business development & marketing manager for the R&D department of that biotech, where she worked for another 2 years.

As far as current or just recently graduated Harvard MBA’s who majored in biology as undergrads but at schools other than UCLA, I know there are a number of former Ivy or Stanford bio majors who after undergrad joined consulting (e.g. McKinsey, Bain), or finance (Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Goldman).

Hi sakky, thank you so much for your reply. Your advice is always very helpful.

I sent you an email a few days ago asking if you could pass along the contact info of the people that you mentioned above to me.

I really would like to ask them about their experiences so far and how they were able to leverage their backgrounds into successful careers in business.
