I was accepted to Pitt a while ago (9/17), in Swanson for bioengineering. I did not receive notification that I got into the honors college though. Since my admission I have raised my SAT to 1440 and my GPA in 5 APs is a 3.9 unweighted. I have also received an offer of full tuition to University of Alabama. Pitt is my first choice though, so how can I get into the honors college? Who should I contact about this, admissions or UHC? And can I use my scholarship offer to get anything from Pitt (I got nothing)?

Email admissions I guess saying that you have updates to your app, so would they be willing to reevaluate you for the honors college. And your scholarship letter might not have gotten to you yet, it’s still really early. But ask about that too if you want. Good luck!

Did you send your new SAT scores to Pitt? You can email and ask for reconsideration for the Honors College. As for scholarships, it is indeed early in the game and they have just started to send out the letters. I don’t know if Pitt “matches” or will be swayed by the Alabama scholarship offer – has anyone had an experience where they upped their scholarship offer?

The only additional thing being in UHC as a freshman will do is get you into UHC housing your freshman year. And even then, the UHC Freshman Dorm (Sutherland West (I think)) is so big that you don’t have to be guaranteed UHC to get into it your first year,. (just email UHC and ask if you can apply anyway).

As for classes, anyone can take UHC classes as a freshman as long as you ask permission. After your freshman year, as long as you maintain a 3.0 (I believe, may be 3.25) you are automatically “in” the UHC, can apply for housing, and sign up for classes without permission.
