What to expect?

I applied to Pitt late (New Year's) and got accepted about 2 or 3 weeks later. I know their website says the scholarship consideration deadline is the 15th of January but it seems like most people have already heard about their awards. I was just wondering if there's still a chance for me to receive anything significant if I haven't heard by now? Also, I assume that if it's not specifically stated in your acceptance letter then you are not accepted to the honors college? I'm a Pennsylvania resident from a private school with about a 3.9 UW and 2240 (800 math). I am not in the top 10%, but my graduating class had 35 kids. Is Pitt really that strict about class rank? I don't mean to sound conceited but shouldn't I receive something in terms of scholarship money with these scores and all the work I put in throughout high school? Sorry for the rant, but I'm starting to worry a little bit.

Some people in past years have applied WAY earlier than you and still not heard about scholarships until late February or March. Don’t freak out, you still have a while.

Some people got UHC with their admittance, I want to say some got it with the scholarship. Either way it hardly matters. All it lets you do is take UHC classes without asking permission (super easy to get) or apply for UHC housing without asking for permission (also super easy to get). Last year I knew people who were not UHC by the time they matriculated who still were allowed to apply for (and eventually live in) the UHC freshman dorms.

After your first semester, as long as you have a 3.25+ GPA (I believe, could be a 3.0) you are automatically “in” the UHC and don’t need to ask for permission for anything.

Everything else the UHC does (events, clubs, etc.) is open to EVERYONE who attends Pitt.

No. My HS did not rank at all and I was still in the UHC when I started at Pitt.

I just want to point out that the average GPA of a student applying to Pitt is a 3.9 (source: [University of Pittsburgh–Pittsburgh Campus](<a href=“University of Pittsburgh—Pittsburgh Campus - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews”>University of Pittsburgh—Pittsburgh Campus - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews)). So if a BUNCH of highly qualified kids are applying to Pitt, it’s definitely going to take both admissions and scholarship committees longer to decide what amount to give and to whom. Also keep in mind that the scholarship committee only meets once a week, and since the deadline for scholarship-eligible applications just past, they probably have a lot to look at.

don’t know what to tell you. I applied on Jan 15th. and got notification of my full tuition scholarship a couple days ago. UW gpa was 3.5 and had a 2240 SAT(790 math, 760 reading)

also I’m a NMF if that helps. Ec’s are meh.

How did you get notification? Email or mail? Does it post on your status at all?

I got it in the mail, it looked just like the packet they sent out the acceptance letters in. it also arrived the same day as my UHC acceptance

I do appreciate the responses, thank you. I didn’t mention that my CR score was relatively low compared to math. The breakdown: 680 CR 800 M 760 R. My school was very small as I suggested and only offered a total of 6 AP classes. In the 2 years I went there (transferred from public to private after 10th), I took 5 out of the 6 AP classes. Are ECs considered for scholarships? For some reason I thought it was mostly a numbers game. But to make things a little more complex I actually graduated high school in June of 2012 and am taking a gap year right now. I’m in Germany as we speak doing an internship abroad at a construction engineering firm. I have been here for a month and can already tell it’s going to be a very worthwhile experience. I had hoped that it would be unique enough to catch some college’s eye but so far no luck.

Did you submit the supplemental information - personal essay and letters of recommendations? They are required for scholarship consideration, and must be received before the other items in the application procedure - SAT, transcript, app - in order for you to be considered.

Yup, a personal essay and two good recs. One from my AP English teacher last year and one from my employer this year

D applied late Nov and was accepted into UHC with admittance. Got a scholarship notification a few weeks later, less than we had expected. Also a NMSF. D’s stats are a little higher than yours.

Is your mail being sent to Germany? Possible mail delay?

Unfortunately not. My mail is going to my home in PA and my family is keeping me up to date with the letters. A little bit unsettling not being home to see all the mail for myself.

Sorry, don’t have any other ideas. Looks like you need to sit tight for a little longer.
