I have seen that many universities ask for a 'school profile' and I saw an example one that included top 10% info and AP scores info. It was right on the website of a school.

However, my school does not rank (I should be at the top). Most students don't take APs - most take one or two in the areas that interest them. My province does not treat AP courses as the same as official HS courses people need to graduate - greater emphasis is placed on 'Diploma exams' that make up 50% of a student's grade 12 grade. (I have done well on these, too).

So, I don't really think we have this information readily available. I looked around the website and we have a brochure that basically advertises the school and gives some information on it to look good but nothing so detailed. Should I talk to my GC and ask him to make it? I imagine more info is a good thing for adcoms.

Thanks!

Does anyone know? We have never successfully sent a student to a US school.

Hey

I went to an international school in Indonesia

Last year my Guidance Counselor dealt with it. The profile was basically 2 paragraphs explaining how our school is credited and the grading system. Then there was a table of all the available courses and their corresponding credits. There was also a list of all the schools our students have gotten into, and then average SAT/ACT scores for the last 5 years. My school doesn’t rank either.

Your GC should be in charge of getting that together for you I think.

Thanks for the response! I’ll tell my GC to do that. Most people don’t do SATS/ACTs because they’re largely irrelevant - US is pretty expensive compared to in-country schools. But the grading system stuff, course explanation sounds good.

Your coming from a Canadian school right?

Yes, but it’s a charter school. It’s also not in Eastern Canada and was created ~10 years ago so I’m unsure whether they know how to handle this. Some kids have applied to top US schools on a whim, but they typically weren’t knowledgable about it and I’m unsure of our GC department’s ability to handle it. Our counselors do like emotional counseling and stuff for students - usually there’'s one person handling online courses and final exams but there’s not much done in terms of college guidance. It’s relatively simple to apply to Unis there and someone in the main office just sends transcripts.

We went through this, applying from a French Lycee to British and American universities. We provided what the French normally do in evaluations and the receiving institutions were sophisticated enough to understand. When there was a national test required, such as the SAT, we got my D to take it. The process worked fine. As you seem to be applying to top places, they will understand, I believe.

With one exception: due to a French law, they cannot directly send transcripts, yet some schools (e.g. Smith) did not want them sent by us. So we sent them ourselves and explained and it was not a problem.

Thanks, alcibiade! That’s comforting. My school is just unique and I hope it’s expressed properly.
