So are mens basketball tickets all sold to season ticket holders? Is it possible to get tickets to mens basketball home games? We are planning a visit to Pitt with our accepted student and thought it would be fun to see a game. But not sure how to get tickets. Any ideas?

For the past couple of games, they have sent emails out stating tickets were available at $27.50 each. Of course, these were not the “popular” games so it depends on when you will visit Pitt.

so I’m not sure how you get on this email list…can you explain? And are the games all sold out to season tickets?

There is a waiting list for season tickets so if you saw the last game on tv – there was a lot of empty seats but it was a “sold out” game.

I believe you can buy tickets on Stubhub.

Here is the link to sign up: [UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE - Men’s Basketball](http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/mbb-tix-waiting-list-form.html)

The ticket office often sells a limited number of tickets returned from visiting teams, or for games over the holidays that students will be mostly away from campus, but as mentioned above, these are typically for less attractive games that are before January (before the Big East season opens). Simply put, just call the Pitt ticket office and ask. 1-800-643-PITT.

Previously, there were some unspoken single tickets available through the ticket office (a few, single left over seats that scattered around the arena) that could sometimes be acquired. You also have to call and ask, as they were never advertised. However, the ticket office reseated the Petersen Events Center this year, so those may not exist anymore. They’d be odd, anyway, because everyone would be sitting by themselves.

Stub hub is probably the easiest place to acquire the tickets for other games. You could also peruse the basketball and trading post message boards at Pantherlair.com. Explaining your situation on a message board might even garner some sympathies if people have extra tickets.

Finally, there is traditional scalping outside the Pete, especially for Big East games. Prices will vary depending on opponent, but they are not impossible to get. To be absolutely sure ahead of time, it might make sense to use stub hub.

If you really want to see a game in the Pete, women’s tickets in the lower bowl are always available for $5.

thanks for all your suggestions above- I’ll follow up on it. the game I was interested in was Seton Hall on 1/15 on a Sat night at home I am guessing that will be a popular game.

As to the idea of going to a women’s game, part of the reason for going to a game was to experience the Pitt school spirit at an athletic event, so I was wondering whether attending a women’s basketball game would give us the same experience?

The men’s Seton Hall game won’t be super crazy because, frankly, SHU won’t be great this year. It will be tougher to get tickets because it is a Saturday night Big East game, but since it isn’t a marquee opponent, I think they’ll be some floating around.

It is true that the women’s game won’t give you the same experience as a men’s game. There are occasional games that have nice crowds for women, and some that have been very fun, but on average, it pales in comparison. The women’s team is also coming off a unexpectedly disappointing season last year so I’m not sure how that will affect crowds this season. They do typically draw a couple of thousand.

The cool thing is that 1/15 has both the women’s Notre Dame game at 2pm, so you could make it a double header with the men’s game at 7pm. Because of the smaller women’s crowd, you’d be able to sit in the lower bowl for the women, move around, and maybe even sit in the student section to get an idea what the seats are like for students next to the floor, because you will most likely not be near the students if you get tickets for the 7pm SHU game.

That’s a lot of time to spend on basketball though, and there are a ton of things to see at Pitt: Cathedral of Learning Nationality Rooms, Heinz Chapel, Carnegie Museums of Natural Science and Art, Phipps Conservatory…

PM me and I’d be happy to discuss tickets, things to do in more detail.

wgmcp101- I tried to message you but I don’t think it worked. Are you a current student at Pitt? Would love suggestions on things to do- the purpose of our visit is to help D decide whether she wants to attend Pitt vs. Penn State so we are visiting each and want her to get as much experience of student life as possible. Thinking of attending a class, as Pitt has a list of classes that visitors can attend on a walk in basis. She’d also like to check out dorm life, I’ve got a friend who’s D is a sophomore and may let her stay a night in her room. We’ll do a little sightseeing too- was thinking of the Warhol museum- saw the Carnegie museum last time. D also likes shopping so would like to include that in our visit.

It worked, I replied.

In terms of shopping, definitely go to the SouthSide Works. It’s only a short distance from campus and has the best selection of stores for a college student (H&M, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, AE, etc).

that waiting list worked…I got an email last night saying tickets are available for this Friday’s game against Rider. So hopefully we’ll score those Seton Hall Tix the same way!
