How to get to USC??

Hello, I'm currently just starting off my Senior year at high school. My goal is to become a Video Game Designer, but I would rather get a Computer Science degree than a Video Game Design degree. I want to go toUSC for their Computer Science (Games) degree because it's the best of both worlds. It focuses on computer science, but also places an emphasis on game design as well. USC hosts conferences where game companies attend to look at the student's demos and work. I'm open to a video game design degree, but I would rather get a Computer Science degree that's more well rounded, and still places an emphasis on Video Games.

My current weighted G.P.A. is around a 3.3, and my SAT score is a 1700. I know that this isn't nearly high enough to get into USC, so I would rather transfer after a year or two. I'm also planning to retake the SAT to get a higher score. I've taken a good amount of APs, and I've been the treasurer of JSA, the biggest club on campus, for two years now.

What is the best way for me to get to USC, and into their Computer Science (Games) program? Which 4 year universities' Computer Science programs should I apply to? (I'm not sure which programs allow me to transfer to USC's program, so please give specific colleges if possible). I was thinking Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Jose's programs, but I wasn't sure if I could transfer them to USC. Or should I take the CC route, Norco College has a good game design associate, please give feedback!

Hmm, I’d suggest that you take the CC route–I think USC takes around a third of transfers that apply, so if your GPA and extracurriculars are solid by your sophomore year, you should have a good shot. Check out which ones have articulation agreements with USC.

Best of luck!

You’ll have to start at a CC. Your GPA is too low, and it is doubtful that you could raise your test scores up enough to get into USC …you’d need about a 2100

Anyway…your gpa and test scores suggest that you arent’ strong enough for CS. There is a lot of higher math required. What is the highest math you have taken and what grade did you get?

What was your math score on your SAT? I am guessing around a 600 or lower.
