How to go from a 34 to 36

Currently my score is a 34 (E:35 M:36 R:32 S:34 W:12/12) I really want to push into the 36 range, not only because personal reasons, but also because I want to be as competitive as possible for selective schools.

On English: I’ve gotten a 35 the last two times (one was state/district testing, so I was mandated to take it a second time) I honestly feel like I’m doing everything right, so I don’t know how I keep missing one or two questions. How can I get closer to fixing this?

On Math: I’ve gotten a 36 the last two times as well. I generally perform well, I just don’t want to slip up and make a 35 next time, so how can I keep on my toes for math?

On Reading: I’ve also gotten a 32 the last two times for this section (I didn’t prep for the state testing, so that’s probably why they’re almost all the same.) I seem to have a problem with timing. I guessed on 4 questions. Sometimes I have trouble identifying the correct answer between two answer choices, and I don’t really have any good strategies for this section. How can I get at least a 35 in reading, because I’m aware that a 36 in reading can require a bit of luck?

On Science: My score went from a 32 to a 34. I notice that sometimes the “outside information” questions can cause me to stumble. Also I’ve found that the “how many different trials/uses for an equipment” questions can throw me off too. I really want a 35 or 36 on this section, so any tips?

On Writing: I got a perfect score on this and I really don’t want it to go down, but it’s not a big deal to me, I really just want at least a 10, and I think I’ve got this section down, if you have any additional tips, feel free to share.

I really don’t want to buy section specific prep books if I don’t have to (Like Erica Meltzer or For the Love of ACT Science) and I feel like practice would do me best, I just don’t know the best sources. I have the red book, but there’s only 3 tests and I’ve already taken 2 in prep for my last test. I also have ACT 36 for Barron’s and PR, but I still have yet to read through those

Thanks for your help!

Don’t use the Barron’s or PR practice tests. They’re more likely to hurt than help. Keep reviewing any real test you can get your hands on until you know them so well you could teach them.

@CHD2013 How can you access past tests? I only have PR resources :frowning:
