How to help my autistic daughter communicate better with admissions and faculty during visits, etc.

Thanks. Rochester Institute of Technology and WPI were on our lists. Will look into Clarkson as well.

SLPs are the perfect people for the “task analysis” piece of this puzzle. I would start with thinking about whether there is an SLP who you have worked with in the past that you could pay privately. Some school SLPs would do this if she was no longer on their caseload as a private practice person. If that doesn’t work, check around your area for SLPs that are interested in working with teenagers with high functioning autism, and describe the issue as you have. They will sit down with your daughter, analyze the task, and help her build specific strategies to use.

Your D feeling that autism is such a large part of her identity, I wonder if she might want to add a siggie to her emails mentioning it - together with something like “I apologize if I sound terse, it’s just my style” or something like that?
