I took a practice ACT and got a 27 composite. I got a 29 in English, 27 in science, 19 in math, and 32 in reading.
I did the math with no calculator because I forgot mine so I ran out of time and had to guess on about 7 questions. I am also only in geometry and at the time of the test, I did not know the formulas for volume and area of certain shapes.
I have never practiced for the ACT and this was my first experience with it. What are some good methods to improve? I want to get at least a 32 before I’m through with high school.
I am a sophomore.
I would suggest get a review book and look at the Practice Questions there. Also visiting the ACT website might help a bit. If you’re time constrained, try doing practice tests with a timer and whenever the timer runs out, any question you work on afterwards, mark it. Then go back and look at those questions that you marked and see if you can try to do them faster. You’re looking to improve by the end of high school, right? Then don’t worry cuz you have plenty of time. Just keep practicing some questions and look at review books and online resources to supplement.
This is a very good score for a sophomore! Congrats! But like @chanoo2003, review books are definitely going to be helpful. Also, because you’re only in Geometry, your math skills will be sharper after a year of Algebra 2 and by bringing a calculator next time. @chanoo2003 has already said a lot of the good advice: putting the same time limits during practice tests, checking the answers and finding out why you got them wrong, etc. all will help improve your score.
Best of luck and have a good day!
