How to improve composite score of 27?

Hello, fellow ACT-studiers!

I recently got my score and got a suckish composite of 27. June ACT was kind of easy so

I thought I could obtain 30~31 but it seems that life is not that easy as I thought...

For the prep books, I bought all series of Red Books but that is it.

I really need your tips to raise 27 to 30~33 and I am really determined to study even

harder. Reading and English sections really destroyed my score completely and I

really do need your suggested tips and strategies..

Since I have all red books, could you recommend some general ACT prep books like

TPR, McGraw Hill, Barrons, etc? I am planning to purchase one of those book and borrow

one from library. (Is TPR-McGraw works better than TPR-Barrons)?

Also is Barron's 36 helpful?

I also scored a 27 and am looking to score a 30-31. When I prepared, I used Princeton Review’s Cracking the ACT and found it to be helpful. Barron’s ACT 36 is very helpful because it is designed for people like you who aim to score high.

Since you struggle with English, you will definitely want to memorize some grammar rules. SparkNotes ACT Book online is very good for English review and Barron’s ACT 36 also has an extensive section dedicated to English.

Reading on the ACT really comes down to practice. The more you practice, the faster you will get and the easier the questions will become. When I do practice tests, I read the whole passage in about three minutes and then answer the questions. Once you read and digest the passages, the questions will come easier.

Good luck on the ACT and I am sure you will improve your score!
