I took the SAT this past June and I got a 2220: 750 CR, 790 W, 680 M
I haven’t prepped much since then for the old test (I prepped for the new PSAT, I’m a junior), but I took math 2 this month so my math score went up a tiny bit from that prep and in the practice test I took today, I got a 710.
I’m satisfied with my CR and writing scores but I really want/need to bring up my math score, and it’s frustrating to me that I’m not able to even though I’ve been a natural math student my entire life.
At this point going through more workbooks probably wouldn’t help me because I know all the material, it’s just individual problems that get me (usually I miss 3-4 a test). What do you guys recommend I do if I’m taking it for the second and last time in January? Would Dr. Chungs help with those last few hard problems?
http://qa.pwn the sat.com/ and his book PWN The SAT
Dr. Chungs is a great help for applying concepts and improving your problem solving, and how you can change the problem to one you understand and can solve.
I went from a 650 to a 710 using Chungs book. However, with only about a month left, I’d recommend just going through all the old practice tests. I found that the mistakes I made were rarely mathematical errors, but rather reading the question and getting what they wanted. I got a 750 last month because I put down a number instead of a fraction, and I’m sure there other numerous other silly mistakes you could make.
Utilize the collegeboard tests
would PWN really help? ive heard a lot about it but i thought i read somewhere that its intended more to get you to the 650 range
@jruesmith7 im pretty sure thats where i am, its not that i dont know the math but im just overanalyzing questions or making basic calculation errors. i just dont know how to get rid of these issues
@curlypie99 What you have heard then is wrong. PWN is gold and definitely 800 material!
@inshm2016 should i use PWN or Dr. Chungs? I’ve heard good things about both so I’m not sure
@curlypie99 I have personally not used Dr. Chungs, but I have heard by some that it contains far too difficult questions. I should also add that my SAT math score is 770 (not 800) but that I improved from 570 using PWN the SAT. The questions are very alike the real SAT.
@inshm2016 okay ill check it out, thank you!
