How to improve SAT score

So I'm taking my SATs for the first time in June (one week from today!) as a junior (yeah I waited a while to take them, which I really regret), and my SAT scores are pretty mediocre (1940- 2010). I've taken three SAT practice tests, and Math is killing me; I got a 570, a 630, and then a 600 (just took the test for that now). The PBR questions in the CR, especially the ones where I have to compare two passages, are also killing me; I can do everything else just fine, but these questions, along with a few of the trickier "what is the point of this passage" questions, are causing me to average at a 660 for the CR.

My goal is to get ~700 for all three sections (I just need an SAT score that will get me the average Wesleyan university score). So if you have any tips, suggested books, etc then please share!

Thanks!

I found math to be the easiest to improve. I am by no means a spectacular math student; my PSAT scores gave me a 57 sophomore year, and 59 junior year; taking the SATs for the first time gave me a 630.

I worked with a tutor who showed me that the math section is inherently easy- but stupid mistakes will slaughter your score. By merely double checking all of my answers, I’m now comfortable shooting for a 750+ in June.

So, for math, the bottom line- practice makes perfect. Get the blue book if you haven’t already, and do each practice test’s math sections. The more problems you do, the easier the test seems to be… I can’t stress that enough.

As for CR / W… CR seems to be the hardest for many. I was similar to you… I started off with a 670 in CR, but found it the hardest to improve…

…until I simply looked at the section differently. Look online for new methods and strategies you can take. I highly recommend Googling “How to attack the SAT critical reading section effectively,” and reading what Noitaraperp had to say. That method and mindset have done wonders for me.
