How to know if I'm exempt from submitting SAT/ACT

I'm an international student so I don't have a GPA (instead I have results from external exams on an A-E scale), nor do I have a class rank.

I have taken the SAT (scored 1920) and the ACT (December scores still pending). How do I know if I need to submit these score or if I'm exempt?

I'm applying for international financial aid and I know this will be very competitive so I'd like to avoid sending my somewhat mediocre SAT score if possible (I don't know the average Pitzer SAT score range but I'm pretty sure 1920 doesn't make me extremely competitive)

Thanks in advance!

the website and application materials–I know I saw them on the common app—allow you to indicate the reason you are exempt; they are if you are in the top 10% of your class or if you have an unweighted 3.5 gpa. If you are a unsure of these you may want to send your SAT/ACT scores.

I wouldn’t be afraid of sending the SAT/ACT scores in. That said, this is something that could have been solved with a simple call or email to the office of admission. Email could still be an option, although I don’t know if the counselors check there emails over the break.

On the whole, the general rule is that if you are not sure, send the scores in. Another option that could work for you would be sending in either:

Two or more Advanced Placement test scores of at least 4 (one must be in English or English Language, and the other in mathematics or a natural science)

or

Two International Baccalaureate exam scores: one must be in English 1A and one in the Mathematics Methods (Standard Level or a higher-level course in mathematics)

or

TWO EXAMS: One recent junior or senior year graded analytical writing sample from a humanities or social science course,
AND one math exam, preferably a final or end-of-semester exam in the most advanced math course possible (at least at the
algebra II level). The samples must include the student’s name, teacher’s comments, grades, and the assignment.

Pitzer will accept any of those in lieu of your ACT or SAT scores, just indicate you are doing so on the supplement. Hopefully these are some viable suggestions, and good luck on your application!

Happy New Year!
