How to know where I stand? - Singaporean Student

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm a Singaporean student who really wants to get an American education, but I did not do very well for my A-levels. Hence, I do not know where can/should I apply for. My stats are as listed below:

A-level Score: Maths - A, Physics - C, Economics - C, General Paper(English) - C5, Project Work - Band 2, Chinese at O-level - A2

My JC exam results are normally Cs, with an occasional B or D.

My SAT 1 score is 2050, 710 for critical reading, 790 for maths, 550 for writing.

I have yet to take my SAT 2.

For the 2 years of my JC life, I was an active member of the fencing team, representing the school for quite a few competitions and one international competition in another country. I won a team gold medal for a inter-school competition. I was also a member of the school entreprenuership society, running the school bookshop and represented the school in one competition.

I am very interested in pursuing a degree in Food Science/Technology or Business Administration. Cost is not a factor. So what are the colleges that I should apply for?

And should I take my SAT 1 again to boost my chances, or is my day-to-day results too crappy for better colleges to accept?

On a side note, does the type of subject tests I take matter? Or is it just the results of the subject tests? I haven't taken Biology since 4 years ago, but if I can score a decent score for Biology, will that help me to apply for a Food Science degree?

Most of us haven't the slightest idea what A-/O-levels mean or what the standards are. We don't use them in the US, though colleges will know what they want from internationals.

What's your idea of a "better college?" What's your gpa/class rank?

Your SAT is obviously very good, as it's at the 98th percentile. It shouldn't keep you out anywhere but it does *seem/I a bit low for top-20 schools. You may want to retake it to improve your writing score.

Does that A/O level stuff translate out to a GPA on the 4.0 scale? That would be handy.

"On a side note, does the type of subject tests I take matter? Or is it just the results of the subject tests? I haven't taken Biology since 4 years ago, but if I can score a decent score for Biology, will that help me to apply for a Food Science degree?"

It depends on what school you're trying to get into: different schools require different subject tests. And I'm pretty sure a biology test will help you to apply for a Food Science degree.

Your stats show that you can probably get into a good school, but Ivies would be a reach.

Good luck :)
