How to make close friends as a transfer student?

Hi,
I’m wondering if UCD sets up any programs for transfer students to meet other transfer students. I don’t really know much people when I go to UCD and I want to meet new people and become close, any tips?
Thanks!

I’ve heard just joining clubs helps.

Also, do you guys happen to know anything about the student housing apartments for transfer?
Like willows, drake, lexington, adobe, arbors? Pro/cons?

Check out Daviswiki regarding those apartments. IMO, the Drake is in the best location out of all of them, because not only do you have access to the B bus line (which goes to the MU), but if you walk across Anderson Court (which shares amenities with the Drake and is owned by the same company that owns the Drake) to Anderson Road, you also have access to the G, J, P, and Q lines (the J goes to the Silo). There’s a shopping plaza on Anderson Road, called Anderson Plaza, where you can do your grocery shopping at Savemart and there are also various eateries there as well. There’s also another shopping plaza nearby on Covell, which has Safeway, Jamba Juice, the recently opened Yogurtland, Panda Express, CVS Pharmacy, etc.

When I first came to UC Davis as a transfer, I had the fortunate option of living in the dorms, and I became friends with my roommate and suitemates. First thing first is try to make friends with your housemates, because they will all be transfer students like you. From what I’ve researched, there will be someone similar to an RA there to help transfer students living in the student housing apartments get acquainted with one another.

Thanks,
I’m not sure I would be able to dorm/roommate with someone. Any clubs, etc to join? Is there a transfer meetup at UCD

There’s the Transfer, Re-Entry, and Veterans Center (TRV), and all transfer students automatically get onto the TRV listserv upon enrollment at UC Davis. From the email, you’ll get notices about fun things like pizza parties to meet other transfer students and opportunities to get acquainted with the school. If you’re going to be living in the single student apartments, you’ll have housemates who are also transfer students, because Student Housing only allows transfer students to live in the same apartment as you. You’re not going to get non-transfer students as housemates. Also, there are a bunch of clubs to join at UC Davis, and which ones you want to join depends entirely on you. For example, I’m involved in the So Kpop Club, the Japanese American Student Society club (despite not being Japanese), the Vet Aide Club, and the Pre-Vets Supporting Diversity Club because those are my interests. If you’re into sports, check out IM Sports–UCD even has a Quidditch team, if you’re into Harry Potter (and we have a Harry Potter Alliance club as well. Despite the name, the club isn’t focused on Harry Potter at all, but rather, it focuses on various issues using the themes and ideals from Harry Potter).
