How to not make stupid errors in the SAT math?

How do you not make retarded errors in the SAT math?

I almost never understand how to solve the problem but I just make careless errors.

please help.

This can boost my score from mid 700's to 800. :(

Thanks~

Re-check your work. I would also advise not looking at the answer choices until you’ve done the calculation (if you can do it; you can look at the answers to ballpark it if you get stuck for some reason, but you shouldn’t be getting stuck on very many). Many answer choices are decoys and are selected because they are good decoys (i.e. they are the result of common mistakes kids make). So, do the work, check to make sure all your mathematical calculations are correct - you would be surprised at how many people mess up on simple calculations - and then look for your answer among the answer choices.

Read my article “Stop Making Careless Errors in SAT Math.” It’s posted on this forum - just do a search.

I hope u realize u just said that u dont know how to solve most of the problems.

Nevertheless, u just have to keep it slow and double check. Careless errors are the result of rushing

yeah, I meant “I almost never not understand how to solve the problem”

Biggest tip is don’t be lazy! If you have extra time (and you most certainly will) at the end of the section, glance over the questions and your responses one more time! It can’t hurt you to double check. Once I started doing this, I was surprised by how many mistakes I caught! For the first couple questions, just make sure you didn’t do any basic mathematical errors. The questions towards the end are the ones where you really need to make sure you understand what they’re asking.
Ex. Some questions will give all the information in cents, but will ask for the formula that gives the amount in dollars.

This may not help much but there really is no secret formula to get rid of all silly mistakes

It also helps to be organized with steps and don’t write sloppily. Here’s a good article from AoPS:
