How to obtain an interview?

I'm applying ED to Duke, but I don't know how to obtain an interview. I know that if you mailed in your profile by Oct. 1st, Duke should have sent you information. I haven't recieved any information, and I was just wondering if anyone else had.

i think an alum rep from your area is supposed to contact you via the telephone

^^^
Yes. Don't call them, they'll call you, lol.

Don't worry if you don't get an interview. Duke admisisons officers have said that interviews are NOT a factor in admissions; they are purely informative.

When you apply to Duke, you should automatically be put on an interview list. A member of the alumni committee should contact you to see if you want an interview. This may not happen until late October/November for ED or Dec/Jan for regular decision. The info from the website says to contact them if you have not heard from someone by mid-January. Don't hesitate to call by then if you haven't heard--sometimes mix-ups happen.

Here is the info from the Duke website:
"While not required for admission, interviews provide an opportunity for the applicant to learn about Duke as well as an opportunity for a representative of the university to learn about that applicant's personal strengths. The majority of applicants find it possible to have an interview in their home region with a member of Duke's Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee (if an AAAC representative lives in their area).

Only students who file Form 1 of the Duke Application or Duke's pre-Application to the Common Application (Form A) by the appropriate deadline (October 1 for Early Decision, December 1 for Regular Decision) will be contacted by an alumnus/alumna to see if they would like an interview.

Our priority is to interview Early Decision candidates first, during October and November. Students living in large metropolitan areas can expect to wait longer to be interviewed; not all candidates from the same area will be interviewed at the same time or by the same person. Referrals for alumni interviews are based on the candidate's mailing address. Students will be contacted by an alumnus or an alumna by mid-January. If you submitted Form 1/Form A of your application by the appropriate deadline and have not been contacted by November 10 (for Early Decision) or January 20 (for Regular Decision), please e-mail the Alumni Affairs Office at DukeAAAC@daa.duke.edu. Write AAAC Interview in the subject line and include your full name as it appears on your application, whether you're applying Early Decision or Regular Decision, and the city, state, and zip code where you'd like to be interviewed.

The interview process is complete by March 1. Candidates living in an area not covered by our alumni admissions network are not at a disadvantage in the admissions process. These students may submit an additional letter of recommendation if they wish."

Hope this info helps. Good luck with admissions!

Hey, I am currently in a different country and Duke says that if I want, I can submit an additional recc if I do not get an interview. Is the letter better and more useful?

I can't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet it is.

Thanks bandmom - that helps :)
