How to pack/get stuff to college when you have to fly there...

Hi! I am a senior in high school and I applied to a bunch of schools on the east coast. I decided to do this to give myself a fresh start in a new environment. I live in Texas, and I'd really like to experience the whole 4 seasons thing; here we only have 2 seasons- the hot season and the cold season. :/

I am really excited to see which schools I get into or not, but one problem is that I will have to fly there unless my situation changes, which I doubt it will. I figure that my mom will try and fly with me to the school, but how would I maximize the amount of clothes/stuff I can fit into my suitcase without exceeding the weight limit (50 lbs.) I figured that rather than spend a ton of money on shipping my stuff to school, I would just get the things there through Bed, Bath, & Beyond's deal (you pick out what you want at the school, then they ship the order to the BB&B in your college town there, and you pick up your stuff at that store), but, what do you suggest I do packing wise to be able to bring as many clothes/personal items as possible?

Thanks! :)

Clothing should never push the 50lb limit anyway. And just run clothes through the wash to knock out wrinkles when you get there.

(Seriously. They’re a godsend.)

We are in CA and my D is at school in PA. We pre-ordered bedding online and had it sent to the nearest store. When we arrived, we bought last minute items at local stores- you can even do this with bedspreads, etc, but there may not be a great selection near the school due to everyone else doing the same thing! As for personal belongings, I flew with her the first time she went. Since each person could take (1) 50# suitcase at $25 each (I think), she took a suitcase and checked it, and I bought another suitcase at a thrift store, packed it with her stuff and I checked that one. I used a carry-on for my stuff. That way, we just dropped the extra suitcase off at a thrift store there when she was done unpacking, and she kept the other and used it for storage. It was cheaper than shipping things. She did not own any cold weather clothing as we do not have cold weather here. She waited until she got there to buy heavy clothing- that way, the local kids could help her get appropriate clothing,.
