How to prepare for AP Calculus AB before school starts?

Hello everyone,

I have been wondering, and am extremely nervous on the topic of preparing for AP Calculus AB. You see, I have EXTREMELY weak math skill foundations, for a few reasons. I fell into depression my sophomore year of high school, so I did not learn much from Algebra II and thus struggled in Pre-Calculus my junior year.

Is there any way I could study really hard before school starts in these topics?
I do plan to get a prep book for AP Calculus AB, but I mean, what resources are considered the best for helping me brush up on my Algebra II and Pre-Calculus skills?

Perhaps any websites like Khan Academy? Or do I have to purchase self-study books (Although, I'd prefer not to).

I am determined to study really hard this year so I get good grades in this class.

Thank you.

Definitely (definitely!) make sure you know your algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus before entering calculus. It is almost impossible to pass calculus without a strong background in these subjects.

I would suggest either Khan Academy, or AoPS (they have a lot of textbooks for purchase, as well as a “Wiki” page with lots of math articles).

Thanks! I will definitely have to watch every single on of his videos!
I know if I work hard at math, you can improve.

Nah, there’s really no need to buy study books for math these days simply because there’s so many great resources free of cost for math students. Khan Academy is my personal favorite but if it doesn’t work for you, there are many alternatives like PatrickJMT ([PatrickJMT](http://patrickjmt.com/)) among many, many others.

I love your positive attitude, by the way. Good luck in the class! :)

like the above poster Khan Academy is the BEST! at first I found the format of the videos quite old-fashioned and barely took a second look but when I had trouble when reading the calc textbook, I went back to the videos and fell in love with them! so give them a chance!

I am currently doing calc ab w/out precalc (pretty doable imo) over the summer

Good luck!
