Did anyone ever used some creative art portfolio for Engineering schools that use Common App?
How this can be done?
My child has big collection of drawings and creative writings that were created for fun outside of school. Should it be used for application somehow to show that child is “creative”?
Someone asked this question of a Stanford rep at an event recently and was pointed to their optional Arts Portfolio submission as the way to provide samples of creative work. It’s due even earlier than their regular application (Oct. 15, I believe she said) due to the review process.
Be sure you know what you’re submitting and the value of it. The reason it needs to be submitted to Stanford early is because submissions are evaluated by faculty in the arts departments (admissions officers aren’t art critics), so it will be evaluated along side those applying for art school.
So if they are very high quality portfolio pieces that could stand up to that scrutiny, check other colleges for the equivalent of an arts portfolio submission.
It looks that Case Western encourages it.
What do you think about instead of “portfolio” well written and self illustrated short creative story (fantasy)? Did anyone tried something like that?
