How to resign from a university?

I recently got accepted into a UC school. I will be transferring from a 4 year university (a CSU to be specific) and wanted to know if I need to sign any paperwork or something to officially drop out from my current CSU once the semester ends?

Bump, anyone?

From my understanding, I don’t think you have to do anything… You just request your official transcript at your current school for your new school and you sign up for classes at your new college.

@WhiteTiger84 I would assume so too. I guess I’ll talk to my CSU counselor about this just to make sure. (Although she won’t be pleased I will be leaving haha)

I can only speak about CSUN, but I’m sure most CSU’s are the same:

"Leaving CSUN Temporarily?
.
I need to take a semester off. Who should I contact?
Unless you have been academically disqualified from CSUN, you are not required to notify anyone to leave CSUN. You may leave for up to two consecutive semesters but must re-enroll after that time to continue your status at the university. If you do not return after being gone for the two consecutive semesters, you will be required to reapply to CSUN.

To encourage students with satisfactory academic performance to return to CSUN following an absence, the University will automatically place qualified resident and nonresident students on a Leave of Absence if they:

were matriculated students in the semester immediately prior to the beginning of their leave of absence;
were not academically disqualified, or have special enrollment conditions at the close of the semester; or
did not receive an undergraduate degree at the end of the immediately preceding regular or summer term at CSUN (applies to undergraduate students only).

Eligible students who do not enroll during the first three weeks of a semester or who withdraw during the first twenty (20) class days of a semester are automatically considered to be on a Leave of Absence for that semester, and if applicable, for the following semester. They will receive registration information for three semesters of non-attendance, provided they meet the criteria above:

If you don’t want to deal with your counselor, you can always just go to the admissions and records dept and ask. ;)

@Mountain343 Thank you for this vital information! It seems that I can just ignore CSUSM altogether then without having to talk to anyone! But, I’ll still ask just in case.
@WhiteTiger84 Yep, that’s true! haha! I’m just afraid that if I don’t say I’m leaving or whatever, I’ll get in trouble or something.

Go to the Registrar’s office and ask for the procedures to withdraw from the University since you are transferring-out, and make sure you don’t have any outstanding bills. Afterwards, go to the Financial Aid office and make sure all school loans (if any) are properly stopped.

@SFS Rules Great! I’ll definitely go and do this!

My daughter left SFSU for a CC, she never told them she was leaving. But, you want to make sure all your fees are paid so they do not delay sending transcripts. She is transferring to UCSB and she just requested her transcripts from SFSU and they were received by UCSB promptly.

@SockherMom Thanks for the information! :)
