I've been lucky enough to be accepted to two excellent schools so far (assuming the Dartmouth likely is essentially official), and I'm still waiting on decisions from two more schools I'm seriously considering. My question is, how do you say no to a school that you love? When I eventually do decide on a school, it's not going to be my clear first choice school-at best I'll like it only a little bit more then I like other schools. So for me, the toughest question is not going to be which school to choose. I think that after re-visiting the schools, I should be able to come to a decision. To me, the toughest question is going to be, how do I come to grips with turning down schools in which I've invested so many hopes and dreams. Also, I feel as if, since these schools accepted me, they clearly want me to attend. And since they were amazingly nice enough to accept me, I feel like I'll be letting them down if I choose to go elsewhere. Anyone else feeling something similar? Right now I'm thinking about writing a letter of some sort to all the schools I reject, thanking them for their interest. Does anyone know if this is ever done?

I think when you're admitted, they include a standard form to accept or reject the admission. I don't think they really care beyond that.

I think it'll be hard if I have to turn down Dartmouth...since they are flying me out for Dimensions. I'll feel like a dirtbag...for a few days.

I already know I'll have to say no to a few schools--I just hope I'm given the same possibility at Dartmouth (although, I think I'll end up saying yes, if they do).

After you send the schools you didn't choose the form saying you're matriculating elsewhere, they will probably send you a form asking you to fill out info about yourself to help them improve their selection process. It's still pretty impersonal, but if you take the time to fill it out that's kind of a nice thing to do for the school (I was too lazy to fill those out last summer and I felt kinda bad about that).

i'm going through the same thing... and mine's worse, because i've been talking to coaches from three schools and i really like/respect/etc all three coaches. and i would love to be able to sail for all three.

but...

skyandsea, i know we have discussed sailing before, but what other schools with teams are you applying to?

they recruit for sailing? or are you talking about crew?
