How to show interest in colleges

I was wondering how to show interest to a college. I am very interested in MIT, but i have no way to show them my interest all the way from Houston. Is there other ways to show interest to a college other than visiting their campus?

On the left side of the screen, go to colleges and then to MIT. There is an admissions rep (MITChris) that pops in and out of this page and maybe he can give you an answer.

1) Schedule an interview with an alumni in your area.
2) Request information online (ie: sign up for any mailing list).
3) See if you can get into contact with someone in admissions to ask some questions.
4) Write a really great essay.
5) Work hard on your application.
6) Attach a supplementary note with your application stating your desire to attend MIT and why.

MIT doesn’t really care about demonstrated interest. Apply EA and make sure you get an interview; that’s about all you can do.

In general, schools with a large number of applicants can’t realistically track interest. For these schools I think contact with the regional admissions person is probably the best way to express interest. This is the person that will make the case for you, or not. Interest is not going to make up for weakness in an application. It gives the school some indication of your likelihood of enrolling should you be admitted and that can help.

If an MIT rep comes to your HS, make sure to attend the info session.
