How to show leadership?

what can I do that requires leadership or shows leadership? Besides the obvious choice of joining student council

Leadership qualities refer whether you have the personality and capability to draw people around you to do great things. This doesn’t mean that you are the absolute leader or head of any team but being the unique person that pulls people together and get things done.

If you are looking for this leadership trait, you will have to start small such as volunteering locally, join clubs at school, or be the leader of your class in terms of academics.

Remember, and this is very important, join a club that you find interesting and can see yourself have fun. Don’t join, volunteer, or commit to something purely for getting that leadership stamp on your resume.

Someone once said you are either born a leader or born a follower. I think that is utter BS. Just do you and take initiative.

Besides winning leadership positions in clubs and sports, you can easily show leadership by taking initiative. By this I mean starting maybe starting a club or a volunteer organization in your school. Maybe youre interested in helping out diasaster efforts in Haiti or want to help donation of blood? Then try starting a Red Cross Club in youre school. Their website has helpful tips on how to get that started.

Or maybe you strongly believe in your schools need to start recycling. Write a petition and get as many people to sign it as possible. Then send to it to your local Board of Ed. This isn’t too difficult to do and actually be succesful.

These demonstrate leadership because they meant you were willing to start something no one else has or had, setting you apart from youre peers, making you a leader.

Hope this helps!

Leadership is responsibility, not privilege; action, not position; guidance, not knowledge; and outcome, not disposition.

Unless you’re leader of NHS, which is kinda a do nothing club (at least at my school)

NHS is a fail

^Agree.

10 char.

Boo. I’m Prez of NHS as of this spring and it is a big deal at my school. How do I show my school takes it seriously? Organize a lot of things before applications are in?

It’s not a HUGE deal at my school, but you definitely know it’s there, especially if they rejected you :stuck_out_tongue:
It’s a fail because, as per xkcd’s genius, “[you join] the honor society to show colleges [you are] honorable, but [you’re honorable] because you’re in an honor society.”

^ yep

I was an officer and it was a waste of a monday, the sponsors had all the years activities planned out as per tradition from every other year and all our suggestions were subtly ruined by them. So all the sponsors had NHS do every year was kiss teachers asses with candies on the holidays to pass out. I got a shirt, we sold popcorn, and showed up to meeting for points so I could graduate with an extra spiffy sash.

Wouldn’t have joined it if I’d known, they didn’t let you quit after you were an officer.

i was not part of any club but still volunteered whenever i could and actively participated in varsity sports. I wasn’t the captain of the teams I was in, but every once in a while, there comes a situation when you have to lead other players on, and I wrote personal statement about it :)

chroni - i just looked quick at some of your recent posts and see that you are studying for some very advanced classwork/ap’s. you’re looking for some ‘leadership’ experience - perhaps you can establish a tutoring program at your high school where students tutor students. example - get a group of advanced math students together to tutor middle/high school students who are taking algebra or geometry. take the leadeship roll and meet with your principal or school board and propose the idea. get a teacher to assist if necessary for your school to allow the tutoring program. someone like you who is an advanced student could be a great asset to students who are struggling.

In My personal opinion people are born leaders and It is up to us to bring out that wonderful leader we all have in us and for those who are leaders we should help others become leaders
