Hi guys,
I will be taking ap physics c: mechanics next year in class as well as calc bc.
however, i was wondering about a couple things.
1. since im skipping honors phys and going straight to ap, what should i buy to get my fundamentals of physics down?
2. what book should i book for mechanics?
3. i will be doing electricity and magnetism by myself, what book is reccomended for that?
4. any prep book advice?
5. any other materials to purchase?
6. do i have to have a complete knowledge of calc for mechanics or e&m?
7. since im taking bc as a class next year, will i be fine in terms of learning difficulty for ap phys?
thanks soooo much.

My advice: Espeically since you skipped physics, why not take AP physics B? You’d kinda be killing yourself taking C as a 1st year physics course unless you’re really really good at math and science and have a ton of time to review.

Speaking of which, if you’ve already taken Calc AB, you should be fine, but make sure you’ve at least taken 1 Calc class. Taking Calc BC at the same time helps.

what im doing right now is taking an online phys course over the summer, and then taking ap phys c as a class. like i am taking a condensed version of honors phys over the summer. but another thing was that calc bc will not be my second year of calc. it will actually be my first. my school does it like this :
ap calc ab in class
ap calc bc after school.
i will be taking the after school option.
do you think i should try and learn calc over the summer by myself?

Yeah sure, calc isnt that hard to learn. But don’t ask me, I’ve never taken Physics C, so I don’t exactly know what option is best for you. All I know is that knowledge of Calculus is required.

The online course looks good, although it won’t prepare you as well as AP Physics B

Without a solid foundation in physics beforehand, Physics C would definitely be more difficult. That being said, I personally think calculus makes physics make much more sense - so if you have a firm grasp on calculus, I don’t think it will be impossible.

Maybe focus on some calc stuff during the summer as well. It will be hard to learr both the math and the application fat the same time

Yeah so basicall spend half the summer doing calculus, then the other half doing physics. Maybe that will put it all together.

do you guys know of anything i should purchase to learn calc and or phys?
like calc for dummies i have. is there anything else i need to learn calc?
and for physics i have no idea what textbooks and or prepbooks to buy?
also compscigeek, i know you said you liked bio. so i was wondering, how hard is it to self study ap bio from a barrons/cliffnotes book?
is that all i need for bio?

I don’t remember ever saying I liked bio, but ok… Ap Bio is pretty much pure memorization. So getting perhaps a Bio book and Cliffnotes is really all you will ever need lol.
