How to stand out in Humanities(RSI, Simens for science)

What kind of programs are there for a student to stand out in Humanities like History or English? Students who are good in Math and Science have the Math competitions, the Intel science competition, Simens etc and plenty of Summer Programs.
Any suggestions/advise for students who are strong in Humanities instead of Math and Science?

I've heard the TASP summer program is like RSI for the humanities.

SAT and SAT II are a starting place. Your essay is another. Being published would certainly help. Pursuing additional study (summer writing programs, etc) should help. Debate is one of the classic activities for H kids. Latin competitions....

Other areas are Model UN, tutoring programs (start your own for foreign kids in your school), etc. The competitions are nice, but actually doing something productive is just as good if not better. The competitions are produced for the kids (and the kids produce the experiment or research). Setting up your own program and making it successful is much more impressive.

Thanks for the great suggestions.

What is TASP?

Summer writing programs are expensive. And also I regret not taking Latin in high school ( did that in middle school and gotten some awards in National Latin competition)

I'm not wholly sure what TASP is myself, but I've heard that TASP is definitely comparable to RSI in prestige.

WISE Quality of Life, Young Epidemiology Scholars, etc. These are for students with research studies in the social/ behavioral sciences.

I think, as the previous poster said, summer honors programs are good (I think a lot of states have a program like that and some schools do too). I guess the equivalent to Natl. Science Fair or Siemens would be getting published (but the number of kids who get published in prestigious sources is as small as the number who win Siemens).
