Any suggestions for writing the "Why GWU" essay to really show interest and not be too cliche??

It's hard not to be cliche in those types of things. I just wrote about the location, opportunities, international affairs program, etc. Just show that you have looked into the school and know a little bit about it.

Mine was really generic, but I remember reading somewhere that GW wants something that sounds honest and genuine, so don't be to over the top with you essay.

thanks that actually helps alot...i feel like whatever i right about its going to be generic,...but its my honest feelings

i think i wrote about how my brother hated GW when he saw it, so i knew i was going to be interested in it because what he hates i love and vice versa. i obviously explained why i liked the school after that, but it's nice if you can add a personal touch to things.

I guess you have to look inside and ask yourself "what attracts me to GW the most"

I just copied all the information on the website. Got a scholarship too.
Ultimately, as long as you use coherent sentences, this does will not make a difference, everyone writes the same thing. Your grades, SAT score, and what state you come from are the most important factors. I think it is easier for west coast kids.

Yeah, it did seem a lot easier for us west coast kids. Things were just much more different in DC than here.

I literally used my essay that I wrote for “Why Georgetown”, and substituted Georgetown for George Washington. It was awesome.

I wrote about how i was on a vacation in DC and it was so hot and we took a pit stop in GW’s air conditioned marvin center. And ever since I was attracted to the school. Something unique.

I assume they expect the generic, considering the question but I would not overlook the part of the application. Show your unique interest and it might be the factor for admission, if compared to a similar statistical candidate.

gw’s big thing is demonstrated interest, so the best thing to do is show you know about the school. write about a specific program or something like that and it’ll be fine.

Agree w/ kid. I wrote about the womens leadership program which is unique to GW (as well as my visit).

Guys, the thread is from Sept 2008! lol
Anyway, I don’t think anyone wants to share the details on how to do the “Why GW” for anyone, especially when we don’t really know each other. Visit the school and make your own conclusions.

honestly I did not write about the location, outstanding programs, or high internship rate. I actually sat down and thought why I wanted to go there. GW knows all the facts about itself already, it would have been a waste of time to simply regurgitate them. got me almost a ful ride so im not complaining

i worte about the location and got a full ride so im not complaing either

The responses in this thread are freaking hilarious. Worth the bump
