I want to start a club at school this year. Has anyone here successfully started a club? What were the steps you took in doing so? Thank you!
It’s not hard. Well, it was for me because I was starting a gay/straight alliance in Texas (Don’t you just love the smell of controversy?!). I’m starting a Black Student Union this school year, so things will be pretty interesting. If you can, gather a group of people who would be interested in joining this club. Next find a sponsor willing to give your group a space to meet. Your school might be different for the next steps, but I had to write a club charter of the organization’s goals and leadership positions. We had to prove that there was a general interest in people joining (you/your friends weren’t the only club members) by collecting signatures and also had to prove that the club wasn’t exclusive. The principal had to approve our club charter at some sort of meeting. Your process might be shorter/lengthier than that, but I believe that is the general route. At the end of it all, you need a faculty sponsor, meeting area(s), club members, and principal approval.
I founded a club that helps include the special needs students in my school. I got one of the special needs teachers to be our advisor, who got word to the special needs students and parents about the club. We did a couple fundraisers, the most successful being a candy-bar sale. It was pretty easy I thought
