How to stay cool in a hot office?

They do sell portable swamp coolers. They are about the size of a night stand. You fill with water and the air blown out is cold. Not cheap, but disturbs the air less than a fan.

We moved to a new building and I was the ranking person of my level so I got first choice of an office. I picked the perfect office. Not too many many windows, east side of the building. I was happy. Then I got a slight promotion and had to move to a bigger office. I lost the coin toss and got the SW side of the building with 5 huge windows. I was hot even thinking about it. I complained constantly that my office was too hot. This went on for months. One day I went over to the other side of the office (it was like a horseshoe with the offices on the outside and the support staff in the center) and it was like a meat locker!

It was my old office. Every time I called to have them turn down the a/c the maintenance guys did. They looked on the office blue prints, saw my name on that office and turn the a/c down another degree. It was about 60 in that office by the time we figured it out.

“Tech fabrics are usually polyester, sometimes with elastane / spandex.”

Duh. Of course they are. The poster meant office clothing. But… Not all polyester is created equal. Doncha know? Also, the weave and other details matter. Ask athletes what they prefer to wear - cotton or tech fabrics. Ex-officio, Lulu, Athleta… comfy, wrinkle-free, and don’t get soaking wet - unlike cotton.

Yes, I know. My point was that polyester is not automatically heat trapping.

Ok, fair enough.
