How to stay in contact with admissions counselor/show interest during the months before decisions

I applied to many schools that heavily weigh interest, but have been unable to visit. I read many threads of posters saying that emailing back and forth with admissions and staying in contact with their regional counselor has benefited them - what are some meaningful things I could say/ask them so that I can maintain contact with them in the next few months? Please share your experiences if you have any too, and give some ideas of what I could say!

You can update on new achievements. If you don’t have anything important to say, don’t email them because they’re very busy during the winter months.

Leave the poor admissions officers alone unless you have a relevant update to your accomplishments to share with them. They are working crazy hard reviewing files now… and honestly, the time to show interest was prior to now.

You can check the admissions portal often, since some colleges use that to determine how interested applicants are.
