I am going into my junior year of high school, I do not really have good scores on my sat (500 math, 500 critical reading, 480 writing) I have tried some methods of studying, but i do not feel it is working. My goal is to get 700 math 700 critical reading 700 writing. I am asking for any effective ways of studying. Also (this is kind of an irrelevant question) do you think it would be realistic to go from my current scores to my goal, or would it be too hard?

If you’ve received good grades, and have good study habits, I think your goal is realistic. You should look around this section for guides and tips (there are a bunch), and look for threads with people that have the same questions you have. As long as you’ve covered all the material in school (up to Algebra 2 in math), the biggest thing left to do is memorize vocab words and practice (a lot.)

I recommend requesting silverturtle, a frequent poster here on College Confidential, to send you his recently finished result of a SAT guide for people preparing for the SAT.

1480 to 2100 is a very big jump and is very unlikely. It is technically possible, but not a realistic goal. Sizable improvement is, however, certainly possible.

with those scores, I think it’s safe to assume you’re struggling with some of the fundamental concepts assessed on the SAT, as in, grammar rules, vocab, how to do each type of math problem. The first place you want to start is with these fundamentals. Understand and be able to work with all the types of math problems (as in, be solid with arithmetic, trig, other things tested), look into study tips for reading comprehension, study vocab, and familiarise yourself with grammar rules.
