So my kid applied to UChicago and got the base application in by the EA deadline in the common app. However he is applying RD. He did set up a UChicago portal a while back and that says RD on it. But now he’s done with his supplemental essays and cannot figure out how to upload them. Since the common app thought he was EA, it says he’s past deadline and won’t let him upload. But on the UChicago portal, it’s not clear how to submit them there either? There’s a big blue button that says “Get Started on your UChicago Supplement” but that just brings right around to the same exact page.
Anyone else run into this? Worst case, he will just upload into “Upload Materials” and e-mail admissions about it but if he can get them in there correctly all the better.
@MusakParent - have your son hit the 2019 Supplement button on his portal. He can work through that (university-specific questions he can toggle through, change or fill in as needed). The essays are actually attached as PDF’s for both the CA and the supplemental section on the portal. So he should plan to save his essays as PDF’s and upload them that way.
If there are any glitches, the UChicago RD deadline isn’t actually till 1/2 and I believe that Admisisons will be open on that day.
Edit/update: Son’s button has red font. But the other day it was a big blue button. Have him refresh to make sure it hasn’t changed (I know the one on my son’s portal did very recently - perhaps today).
Super weird @JBStillFlying ! My kid has the big blue button that literally does nothing across multiple browsers and many login/logout attempts. The software engineer in me thinks there are bugs/usability issues both on the common app side and the UChicago portal side. I am thinking he is just going to upload them into supplemental materials labelled appropriately and then e-mail admissions about it. I hate to have him at the mercy of getting through to admissions on the deadline date.
UChicago probably values debugging/problem solving skills right!? :))
@MusakParent - well, at the very least they won’t hold it against you if a bug prevents your son from uploading his supplement.
Your plan sounds prudent. My son clicked on that blue button but seeing that it was the supplement to the application didn’t go farther. Then when he uploaded his stuff the button had changed. Maybe we can start reading the tea leaves for this school portal as well!
