How to use the EC's Box on Common App

If there are 3-4 clubs where I have good involvement (officer, awards) and 3-4 clubs where I have trivial involvement (honor societies i'm just a member of), how do I fill out that EC's box? It has 7 lines. (common app)

Should I cite both trivial and nontrivial, or just fill in half the box with just the important clubs?

If I don't fill in the whole box, is that pathetic?

Hmm, do other people have doubts about the EC's box?

If you got in or something like that, please tell me what you think about the EC's box...:(

the instructions on the common app tell you to list in order of participation/enthusiasm pretty much

Yes. But do I
1) fill up the box with important AND trivial things or
2)fill up only 1/2 box, and list only important things?

i think that's more of a personal decision.

the only thing i can recommend is that depending on how trivial it is, eliminate it. however, if you think it still holds weight personally and application-qualified then keep it.

Personally, I wouldn't eliminate them (actually I'd marry them ;) )...honor societies are good, even if you don't hold a leadership position.

personally you should call me because i wanted to TALK about this with YOU. but you didn't call me, and i had to go ask strangers for advice...marry them? freak

Or you can fill it out to the max and then go the "I've attached a resume" route!

yeah, i am attaching a resume where i guess i'll include the trivial stuff...

and not including it in the box only to include it in the resume is like personally saying how trivial those activities are...:(...

but maybe i can exclude them from both and just talk (list:) about 4 clubs in my resume and all these details to fill up the page (wait, there aren't that many details...) hmmm...i don' know.

see i'm varsity debate captain, founder and president of mu alpha theta (that's very recent so i don't have much concrete stuff to say about it), secretary in key club, and i got some regional awards for model un....that's 4 clubs, then there are 4 honor societies and science olympiad, where i have 3 regional awards, and student alliance where i am a "mentor"...oh and i have cute latin awards (like, 3rd in state...for picture...) for junior classical league

so pretty much no stellar ec's record or community service...seriously 2yrs in key club is the only community service i have....

what do i do? what do i do? uuuuh.

should i include my summer math camp in the box? errrr...

bump...it's gotten lonely :(

Sending a resume is generally not recommended. I don't remember who I talked to in the admissions office, but they prefer you limit your activities list to those you can put on the application.

seriously? i thought many people send a 1 pg resume

My admissions officer had no problem with me sending a resume. When I applied (oh, so long ago!), I submitted my application online, and then emailed admissions saying I was sending a fedex with my resume. I got an email back that said "Great! Thanks!"

I'm not going to send a resume so to speak, I do believe that's considered pretentious, but more of an activities list with more in-depth stuff about my top activities, as well as listing the trivial ones and all my awards.

Haha. You can call it whatever you want, but it sounds like you're basically sending a resume.
