Hello!

I am currently studying for ACT, and Essay portion of the test really screws me. I heard that ACT emphasizes the contents / information and little organization. No matter how fast I write, I often cannot manage the given time and also seems to forget to check for grammatical errors.

How do you write essay and will you give some good tips and organizing skills?

Introduction
Argument Part #1
Argument Part #2
If needed, Argument Part #3
Counterargument
Conclusion

Have hard evidence/examples to substantiate your stance. On all essays, you should have enough to say to write 3 or more pages.

Source: I got an 11.

You mentioned Counter-argument, but exactly how do I have to write it? I thought writing something opposite to the mainstream opinion will lower the point?

To score a 6/6 you need to mention counter-arguments. So, be explicit. Say something like, “However, a counterclaim/counter argument could be…”

Hello again!

When addressing counter-argument, do I have to write any logical possible solution(s) to keep the whole essay favoring my opinion?

The counter argument… it needs to a strong valid point… but you need to prove it wrong. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Why is the counter argument wrong? and why are you right?

Yes, what div301 has said. Introduce the STRONGEST POINT of argument against yours and acknowledge why some people may think it’s right.

Then tear it apart. Use logic, use examples, use anything. Make sure that, when the reader has finished reading your essay, that they know EXACTLY what your stance on the issue is. If you write a counterargument, and don’t prove it wrong sufficiently, the reader might walk away with mixed feelings about your essay.

Thank you very much for this kind of enormous help! No wonder why my essay is not really good in ACT-standard! I have one more question…Is muscular force also counted? How do you guys write many information in a limited time? Also is there any online source that gives free essay topics (I did all essays I could in Red Book Series and prep books)…

Well, AP Euro definitely helped me out with increasing endurance when writing essays… Just practice writing essays and you should be fine.

Readers like it when you stand out. They have to read a ton of these. Don’t be scared to say “non main-stream views”. They don’t dock you points on your opinion. I got a 10 and I think it was because I somehow managed to reference Wall-E. Don’t be afraid to be quirky.
