Hello all, Im taking the ACT with writing tomorrow. I have been practicing taking practice tests but have been unable to get to practice for the writing section. That is why i am looking for tips and tidbits that can help me score above average (8 or above). This is my first time taking the ACT. I took the SAT and scored a 7 on the essay portion. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks!

Start out with an intro. Then 2 bodies with examples supporting your side. Then make sure you STATE THE COUNTERARGUMENT and say why it is wrong. You must do this it is essential. Then just a conclusion. Act graders tend to reward longer essays so keep that in mind. Good luck!

I’ve taken the test twice and received a 9 and 10 on my essays.

I usually follow this pattern:

Intro Paragraph
Stating the Counter-Argument Paragraph
First Example Paragraph
Second Example Paragraph
Conclusion

Don’t be afraid to throw a little B.S. in your essay. haha

Haha nothing like BSing. What was your intro paragraph like? (length, catchy phrases, question) And Conclusion as well? I heard that the do not like when people reiterate what they said in the intro.
