How tough is it to get into the business school?

especially as a transfer? Is it as hard as engineering?

I wouldn’t say its as hard an engineering but it is very difficult. There’s no exact formula to get in but you have to have good grades and ECs…

How would you chance me? I currently have a 3.66 GPA in my Community College and I am in my sophomore year. I don’t have any ECs though, do you think joining like Phi theta kappa could help? I’m in-state though.

I honestly have no idea and no one on here will be able to tell you. Some people will get in with a 3.0 gpa and 25 ACT while others will get rejected with a 3.8 gpa and 30 on the ACT…

The business college is the hardest to which to be admitted. Transfer admission rate is usually under 40%. Though minimum GPA to be considered is 3.0 the range of admitted transfer applicants is usually about 3.5 to 4.0. High grades alone do not assure admission since the college is known to reject some 4.0s and essays and ECs are very important and thus Phi Betta Kappa would help rather hinder. Make sure you will have completed all needed courses for transfer by when you intend to transfer, see: http://admissions.illinois.edu/pdf/transfer/handbook/bus.pdf

Business college is harder than the engineering one? I think I might also join a business club next semester, would it be too late though or does it not matter as long as you eventually get involved?

Also, do my chances increase or decrease depending on which business major I’m in? I’m thinking of going into Finance and then the 2nd would be Information systems. Would my chances increase or decrease If I picked say…management instead?

I’m not applying to Economics, because you need to have done Calc I and II for that major. I’m doing business calc and finite math instead and that’s different.

If so, it’s because potential engineering students are a self-selecting sample who have already proven themselves strong in math and science beginning in high school, thus eliminating the weakest candidates. If you couldn’t stomach precalculus, you’d never consider engineering as a career but might well try for a business major.

Interesting, also, are my chances of getting admitted into the business school higher if I apply to a lesser area of business?

I’m not sure if it’s true but I don’t think the business major with a specialty of information system/technology is that popular down at UIUC but the business major with a specialty of finance is.

I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but lets hypothetically say that is true, would my chances increase if I apply in IS/IT instead of Finance?

I do plan on applying to both of them, one as my 1st option and the other as my 2nd, but I would like to know if my chances increase or stay the same depending on size/room allowed.

Business has a higher GPA requirement because the classes they require are much easier than the ones that Engineering requires for transfer.
