I am currently a senior in High School and UIUC has been my dream school for as long as I can recall. It is also a rite of passage for me to attend college here because literally every member from my large family (both parents, 7 brothers and sisters) has gone to college here and gone on to be successful. I don't want to be the only one in my family to not go to U of I but I don't know if I can be as successful as all of my siblings if I go here (My father and my 3 of my brothers are engineers. My other brother and 3 sisters were business majors at U of I.) mostly because I am not as smart as them. I did get into U of I, but only into DGS. I messed up my ACT(got a 26, and I was very surprised when I got in with that score) but my uw gpa is 3.8. I want to transfer into the business school after my freshman year but I really doubt that I will be able to after reading all of your bio's, you guys with your 33 ACT scores and all. My family has lead me to believe that if I don't get into the business or engineering program, I will not be sucessful in life. I am just looking for anybody who knows anything about transfering into the UIUC business program.

with an attitude like that the chances seem to be very small.

Can't really help you with family perceptions except to say that eventually you will need to cease trying to make career decisions based on the dictates or desires of others because trying to do so will lead to more distress than just having to put up with the nagging from them.

You can attempt to transfer to business for second or third year, with third being preferred and offering more of a chance of acceptance; transfer into second year means they will consider ACT and high school record; transfer into third year means those will be ignored and they will rely on college record only. Either way, it is not that easy because business is the hardest to transfer to. You will essentially need to take the same course work the first year (and second) that a typical business student will take, a lot of which are general ed courses you could take for any major. At the right time you would then request a transfer and business college would decide whether to allow your entry. You can find info on-line at UIUC for transferring into business both as a UIUC student and as a student from another university.
