Can you tell your personal opinons on the campus especially Revelle College and its drom!!!
what did they tell you that you think those of us who did not attend should be aware of?
Are there a lot of trees there, how are the buildings, is it close to the city or isolated?
Thanks in advance!!!

so before i went today i was kinda down on ucsd especially revelle. now that i went i am so excited and am like.. 95% sure i'm going there. people keep saying the revelle dorms suck & the fleets more than the others but i loved the fleets compared to blake and argo. their set up was cozy and cute and very pretty compared to the others. the colleges are pretty close to each other - and a little walking never hurt anyone (though i didn't go near sixth so i can't say for that) the campus isn't as close to the ocean as i had hoped but i'm not going to be too upset about that because it's closer than most. it's beautiful and friendly there - they have a jamba, panda, rubios, round table, and probably some others there which was pretty cool. there are also like energy drink vending machines EVERYWHERE which i thought was kinda funny. the revelle library is mostly a computer center but it was really nice. the big library looks better on the outside than it does on the inside, but oh well. if you've ever been to cambridge the center area with the commercial food and the theater and stuff reminds me A LOT of harvard square (minus the crazy people).

i really don't understand why so many people bash revelle on here. i loved it. i didn't eat the food there - i had panda express - but it can't be THAT bad and even if it is there's other food right around the corner.

hmmm if i remember anything else i'll post it.

ohhh revelle has this anchor thing that it's a tradition to paint freshman year and then the frats kinda take it over and try to keep it painted their color and it goes back and forth. that was a really bad explanation - but the way the guide explained it it seemed really cute and fun.

i think most of the buildings are kind of ugly, but i'm comparing them to harvard which is perfect. you'll be spending most of your time outside of the classrooms anyway.

like i said i thought the campus was beautiful and there were a lot of trees. there was this weird dirt & tree area that i didn't really get but it didn't look that bad, at least they tried.

revelle houses some kids from mashall and roosevelt (I THINK) or maybe another college so if you didn't know that i guess that's something to beaware of. i would suggest bringing a bike if you decide to go there (or getting a bike there - they have a bike shop) things may not be far but with a bike you'll definitely get there faster.

good thing I dont live on campus, or else I would've been bombarding with roves of incoming freshmen trying to get a peek at my room.

lol none of the guys were showing their campus, most ppl had their doors closed in the common room lol, only girls were showing off their dorms

I viewed Sixth. The dorms were crammed...the apartments were better. I didn't see any of the classes at Sixth, but I would assume you weren't going to take any classes at Sixth but more outside as HaleyHales mentioned. Overall I thought the campus was nice. Very big too. The tour was good. The engineering presentation thing was good too.

It was chill. Eleanor Roosevelt looked really nice. I looked at Muir and it was okay.

I looked at ERC today...the guys are total slobs, with four videogame things...and a plasma tv. The girls had a tiny tv compared to it. But what's the kitchenettes like? I really want to bring a beanbag to my dorm and saw some guy lying down on one. Did anyone see any apartments?

I decided not to go to admit day, but I did hit the beach this afternoon.. It was a perfect show-off-the-weather day for UCSD.. (it rained a bit last week..GASP)

haleyhales.. glad to hear you dug it!

Ooh I was at the beach too! Did you see the seals?

warren does overflow for revelle. i went there, its actually really nice, everythings a little smaller than you're used to i guess but if you keep things clean its pretty good =)

Since you guys are talking about the different colleges....Do you usually get into your first or second choice? Or do you get your 5th or 6th choice a lot.

It was alright.. I got accepted to Muir, so i went there first. Man it's ugly there. When people say it looks like a prison it isn't a exaggeration. I'll post up pics when I get to. So after the welcome session, i went to go see Muir. They didn't even give me/us a tour!! The guy just took us to the college and let us be, let us do whatever we wanted. But with that freedom i checked out what they had. They had a few booths up, nothing interesting really. I woulda thought they would have sports, health, and engineering clubs but they didn't. They had some community service, activies organization and other stuff. Yes those things are important, but it doesn't look good to a person that trying to decide from other UC's. After checking out the clubs, i went to the res hall. Shiet they are ugly from the outside. The inside look alright, nothing special. It's good that you get to know everyone on your level. They call it a "house". Pretty roomy. Has way more room that UCLA's dorms, those things are tiny! Well anyway, i got hungry and ate at sierra summit, i think. Good stuff, a lot of variety. I got bored, so off i went. I went to Marshall because they were having some big culture festival. A lot of different types of food. Kinda seem like a potluck that you had a pay for. I didn't really see the dorms or anything. I went just about everywhere.

I just the name the places that caught my attention:

The park between Revelle and Muir. It was a very nice park. It had beach-sand volleyball with good strong nets. Nice tennis courts. Basketball courts with glass backboard. They also had a huge soccer field, a swimming pool, and 2 gyms huge gyms.

The engineering department was amazing. It looked so nice compared to Muir, and some other parts of the school. I went on a MAE tour (i'm SE), it looked sweet. The tour guide showed us projects that 3rd and 4th year students were making, which were clocks and robots.

My friend said he liked ERC, i didn't go cuz i just didn't feel like it. But he said he was very nice.

6th college is SWEET. I didn't go into the dorms or apartments, but from the outside it looked nice. It had a big open area that had benches to chill in the shade, and the "house" surrounded this field.

The beach is more than 5 min away. Well it is, but it isn't. I had to go through a maze to get to it. I had to j-walk, go through some secret passage, walk through the richest neighborhood every, then walk down a freakin mountain. probably took like 20 minutes. The beach is nice. It actually had blue water. There wasn't any v-ball nets, or pits, which was a dissapointment, but it looked like.

When i was there it felt like a little city. Like all the food places and other stuff in the middle, and the houses and apartments surrounding it. Also with the park right next to the college. It was an O.K. experience, coulda been better.

It would be funny if one of us were in one of those photos..I thought I saw myself in one of them for a minute before I looked closer. I guess this means I don't have a life.

HAHA NICE.. you took just about the worst route.. If you walk down La Jolla Shore Rd, it takes about 5 mins to get to Scripps. The V-ball nets, etc are a little further south (~5 min walk on the beach), at La Jolla Shore beach. Grab a skateboard, and it nicks the time down even more :D. When you say "it actually had blue water," are you saying that the ocean isn't blue where you live? Nasty...like mission bay...
You're totally right that the Muir dorms are ug from the outside, but I really like the suite-style over a hallway. It's a tradeoff.. older dorms, closer to the beach :D

Did you see the seals at the cove? I live in SD, I went to Solana today to surf it up a bit, so no, no seals there.
GL to you all with the decision!

i'm in revelle and i went to admit day. basically there was this q and a session by the deans of revelle and a student panel. i talked to someone from revelle and they said we're not all nerds and anti-social but revelle people actually are the most involved in campus activities. there's "clics" the library in revelle which has mostly computers and is opened 24 hrs during finals. students say it's not really a library since they go in there to "socialize" lol. i thought the fleets were a lil cramped. i also thought double rooms were cramped too so now i'm planning on getting a single room. all suites are single sex. argo/blake have bigger suites and i think they have a kitchen/lounge area. argo has a lounge on every floor, i think blake has a lounge on the 3rd/top floor. i got to see girls suites and i thought they were pretty neat and organized. don't know about the guys though. every students gets a desk, bed, and a closet in their room. the bed can be raised to put stuff under. be prepared to bring lots of quarter for laundry x_X. in the fleets i saw 2 toilets/2 showers/2 sinks. but in argo i saw 3 sinks/1 toilet/2 showers or maybe there was another toilet that i wasn't aware of.

the guide said it takes 17 minutes to walk across campus. i walked to price center and it wasn't far. price center has like EVERYTHING! lol. revelle is also next to the gym and this craft place. oh yeah, there are a lot of trees... kinda reminded me of some hiking/camp place.

i thought ucsd looked like any other college campus, nothing stuck out to me. but i'm still pretty sure i'm going to sd over irvine but i haven't visited irvine yet.

Of course go to SD! You can walk to the beach from SD, and its only a ten minute shuttle/bus ride from La Jolla shores and seal beach. Irvine is some concrete colony of endless buildings and occasional grass, nowhere near the beach, way down in the boring burbs.

Muir didn't look too impressive from the outside or inside actually. That was a bit disappointing. Eleanor Roosevelt College looked absolutely awesome though.

anyone got pics of sixth?? i didnt have a chance to attend admit day...

Theres really only one thing that can be said of what I learned today:

Warren > ALL

God the Warren side of campus is GORGEOUS. Who cares about a 5 minute walk from the beach when you have all of that? The buildings are so artistically cool, it has some great views of everything and anything, its got the most awesome dorms, its got the cool two concentration GEs, its so close to the Price Center. I could keep going on and on and on and on! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

I must say though, visiting the west side of campus was rather boring in comparison to Warren :) I dont get why Muir gets so much hype when really its Warren thats coolest....

You're obviously not a surfer :D Who cares about the 5min walk? We do :D
I agree with you on a lot of stuff, though.. Warren was my 2nd choice. I expecially love the new engineering buildings.. SO COOL! the 6 college thing is neat because each college has its strengths and benefits to fit different types of people. You sound pretty excited.. made your decision yet?
