How was the Trustee/Presidential sessions?

Thank you guitars. Best of luck for your son as well. My d's interview actually was not particularly easy, some off guard kind of questions, but she felt ok about it. Interview was around 35 mins. They also wanted to hear her own questions about them. I guess we will see. Apparently we will all hear by end March.
She also liked her hosts very much (two hosts, two explore students in same room), and had an opportunity to visit another dorm. (learned a lot about particular dorms which was helpful). We may very well have met. The reception/dinner was very nice, much enjoyed the speech by the politics prof.

I agree with you Puzzled. There was a lot of selling the past two days. I guess they figure that they want our children to attend even if they don't receive any $. My sons interview lasted a little over 25 min. and it was with only two interviewers. Some of the candidates had 3 interviewers. Oh well, we just wait and see what happens. I also enjoyed the speakers. My son's major will be International Relations. What about your dtr's?

I'm going to the Explore program tomorrow (Thurs./Fri) and I can't find the information sheet. What should I pack?

I have a quick question for previous Explore attendees. I am headed out to CA on Sat. If we are staying with our host students in their dorm rooms, what are the sleeping arrangements? I didn't see anything about bringing a sleeping bag or anything....can any of you offer me any advice on this? Thanks so much.

My s says to bring a sleeping bag, towel, and clothes for next day's interview. He stayed in his host's USC apartment with sofa (where he slept). Don't know about those who stayed in res. halls. When you arrive, you'll store your luggage (bring one with wheels-there is a lot of walking!) when you check in and you'll go back and get it around 5:30pm after you have been introduced to your host student. Btw, the weather is gorgeous! Good luck.

yeah bring a good pillow and a sleeping bag. I was there for Trustee scholarship and I ended up sleeping on the floor (ow). If you can, maybe try to bring/arrange something unless you're comfortable with sleeping on just the floor. In fact, one of the girl brought like a portable mattress. hmmm it might've been handful but I certainly was envious when it came to bedtime.

wish you all luck! It really is SO much fun, and don't sweat the interview. Just be confident and make sure to review your application before hand--and if you have time, keep up with the current events. some people get questions on news, others don't. I got one about this year's election.

Best of chances. :)

my s brought a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, clothes and that's it. You're only there for 2 days. My s slept on the floor in one of the dorms and had a great time. He had a fun time. Relax and have fun!

It was great. I interviewed for Presidential. the best part was the Welcome with the trojan band. the interview was not bad. they asked me about myself, my ec's, motivation. no questions about the war or elections, thank God. I took my sleeping bag and now every other bone in my body hurts, so take pillows so u can sleep over them. i applied to viterbi and spoke to 2 prof. , they showed me around the lab. it was a great experience, USC will treat u very nice. Good luck to everyone.

hey
i was down for pres last week
it was awesome
at least for marshall kids
they treated us like royalty
it was great ;-)

its pretty fun
my host was really nice
the interview wasnt too bad
about 20-30 min
nothing too pressing
well not mine at least
most people i talked to said that their's went well
one person from the college said that his interviewers were like praising him and what not
whereas another from the college said that his people asked him kinda tricky and sly questions like are you excited/ready for college etc etc
but he was the only one i met who said that

do bring pillow and sleeping bag
the students dont have those for you!

try to see all the dorms
i wish i had done that
now im trying to fill out my housing app on little info

but the program def boosted usc waay up on my list!

do you get a chance to take a shower on the morning of your interview?

My son's interview was at 9am. He was up in plenty of time to get ready for his interview and eat breakfast. I suppose you can take a shower in plenty of time for the interview. Good luck! My son had a great time

Be sure to bring your own towel.

heyy so at what time do the real activities actually start? I live rather far from usc-- in the o.c.

Molliemeow,

You can come late if I recall. The first day there are various activities and presentations that start at 11:00 (bus tours, campus tours, Thematic Option, etc) and last a couple of hours. Although I recommend you take part in some of these, the "real" presentation starts with the welcome ceremony at about 1:00 or so. Then things are pretty busy until after dinner. The second day has breakfast and different presentations (housing, security, student Q & A) in the am which the parents can attend (or not). The students wake up, shower, and eat at different times, depending on their scheduled interview time. They either meet up with their parents at one of the presentations or at the luncheon. Then everyone goes home. I came late the second day to avoid the traffic, but still was able to sit in on a student presentation before the luncheon. Try to get to as much as possible as USC does a great job with everything.

bessie, you are my hero! thanks for the info.

molliemeow we also are from o.c. and it took about 1 1/2 hrs to get to USC in the early morning during traffic. You don't have to be there at 11am. Are you up for a scholarship or are you just visiting with the explore USC?

^oh, I went for the scholarship interview...and I thoroughly enjoyed the program, USC is great.

mollie,

What did you think of the interview? My son said his was very easy and no stress at all. This kind of makes him worried because he was expecting a much more difficult or intense interview. best of luck

Any idea when they let us know and do they ever increase from Presidential to Trustee???

did anyone else get a follow-up call [after the interview]?
