Wow, everyone's been really quiet during this first week! Hope everyone had a good first time college experience.

How was your first week?
Do you think the rest of the 9 weeks are going to be hard?
How are your professors & TA's?
What did you think of the campus after walking back and forth all week in Riverside heat?
How bad did parking suck?
How was the dorm and campus food?
How do you feel in regards to the "feel" of high school versus college?

Yeah, I also noticed things were quiet on this forum lately…

Thank you for asking, sapipa! UCR was absolutely not my first choice but I’m happy to report that these first few days have been absolutely fantastic - so much so that I wonder “when will the other shoe fall”… Maybe it won’t.

I like my roommates, the food, the classes, the teachers; I have absolutely no complaints (I don’t have a car). The quarter system is so much faster than the semester system but it keeps me on my toes. I’m sure I’ll come across some unpleasant experience but, so far, I’m happy to be attending UCR.

How was your first week? First week went really well, teachers are good, didnt have a problem with traffic/parking, and the block party was pretty badass

Do you think the rest of the 9 weeks are going to be hard? I would say yes, especially with midterms and multiple papers being due within the next few weeks.

How are your professors & TA’s? 1 really good, 2 good

What did you think of the campus after walking back and forth all week in Riverside heat? I enjoy the campus yet I really haven’t hung out too much outside of classes and the library.

How bad did parking suck? Yesterday was the absolute worse, I faced some traffic on the freeway only to arrive on campus 20 minutes before class, to which it took me 30-40 minutes to find parking and another 10-15 minutes to walk to class.

How was the dorm and campus food? Live off campus and have yet to try the campus food.

My TAs and professors are pretty good as far as TAs and professors go

weather was bs

parking is ok, long as you don’t try from like, 10 am -1 pm ish

Almost all of my classes are in the science building area so I was fine with walking

NO humanities this quarter, hell yes

The first week was boring and hot. I think the next 9 weeks will get harder but oh well. My econ TA is completely useless. We basically learned Algebra 1 equations for an hour. My professors assign a lot of reading but the lectures are very boring. One professor basically has a powerpoint of the book and just says what’s on it. My other professor doesn’t seem to have a clear direction in the lectures.
Walking around campus is really annoying because of the heat but it’s manageable. Dorm food sucks.

I actually don’t think I fit in at UCR at all. Sure, it’s still very early and I hope I am wrong. But UCR seems really boring. A lot of people go home during the weekends, Pentland is like dead. And the professors are not very engaging or interesting.

@ahnyoungs2 yeah, weekends are pretty dead there, as we have all mentioned there’s nothing fun around there, anything good is at least an hour away…even the malls there suck. When I was there, we drove down to hang out with friends at UCI at least once a week, liked Irvine so much I bought a house there/here. In the winter we drove up to mountainhigh on the weekends since it was somewhat close. One good thing about UCR being “boring” is you get a lot of chance to study…I’m sorry we all didn’t make it to UCLA, now that place has a night life near campus…a few of my old friends never made it past the 2nd quarter there though, there are always pros and cons.

Best of luck! 4 years past by pretty quick.

My first week was pretty good. The weather wasnt that bad, but Im biased because I used it as an excuse to swim every day. I’m finding discussion classes more helpful than lectures right now considering my calculus and history teachers pretty much teach straight out of the book. Online homework is taking some getting use to definitely. As for the weekend, its been a blast here at grandmarc. I get back from class and there’s a party going on in my apartment lol. I don’t even need a car, I mean the train can takes you all over orange county and la so its works out great.

How was your first week?
BOMB. I met so many people who are becoming great friends with me and I’ve already participated in some club events and stuff. I really am loving UCR.

Do you think the rest of the 9 weeks are going to be hard?
I mean, it can only be more difficult in terms of classes. Midterms and finals D: I’m scared haha.

How are your professors & TA’s?
I love how passionate the professors are. And the TA’s are alright. Definitely not as chill as some TA’s my other friends have, but no complaints here.

What did you think of the campus after walking back and forth all week in Riverside heat?
Ohh man, the heat was unbearable when it was in the 110s that one week. But since then it’s cooled off so I’m just appreciating the weather when it doesn’t feel like hell has surfaced haha.

How bad did parking suck?
Freshman, so I don’t drive.

How was the dorm and campus food?
I actually like a lot of the food here.

How do you feel in regards to the “feel” of high school versus college?
The “feel” is definitely different. Things are so different for me now than it was back in high school and I’m loving it. Seriously. Love. COLLEGE. haha.

Okay - the shoe has kinda fallen of a bit so I must recant some of my uber happy remarks.

Here it goes: I hate weekends at UCR. They are downright awful. Most of my friends take off. The few of us that remain try to have fun but the social scene on weekends is nonexistent. One of my friends has a car (thank God!) and we try to do stuff but the campus is just plain dead. Dead. Flatline dead. I wish I could go home for the weekend but I live too far. Oh, well.

That’s my only complaint…so far. Glad to be here though!
