So...how was everyone's first day?

Someone had to start a thread.

I ditched my classes bc i’m awesome…

I see. I haven’t even moved back yet since I don’t have class on Thursdays or Fridays. I wouldn’t know what the first day was like so that’s why I’m asking you guys =D

Thursdays AND Fridays? Lucky. My day was whatevers, most classes let out early since it was just syllabus day. I was struggling to stay awake since I came back late from a rush event last night and had an 8 AM class. -__- I took like a two hour nap between classes at Powell.

^ You probably freaked the freshmen out. They were probably thinking, “Whoa it’s only the first day of school and he’s already sleeping in the library. S*** just got real…”

Really crahppy. I don’t have an apartment yet so i had to take my car. After looking for parking for like an hour, i realized that like a huge portion of the west side has no parking on thursday (street cleaning!) and so i proceeded to one of UCLA’s parking lots to pay there, at the last space, for the reasonable fee of $18 for an all day pass. (of which my friends were seriously trying to dispute with me/wrong since an all day pass is only $11; it was not.)

One of my classes is also insanely boring (history of phil. class) My fridays are pretty decent though (only have one class today) and i have an interview for another apartment today, so i’m hoping that goes well.

^it is 11 at parking lot 4, you parked in parking lot 8? that’s where it’s 18.

Hello, this is my first post or thread,so I hope this is the right way to post stuff. Anyhow, I am a community college student and am applying this November to the UC’s. I am applying two my top two, which are UCLA and UCSD, and then to others as well. I am really stressing out over what major to go in as. I am aware that you cannot change majors upon hopeful admission to the university as a transfer student and was wondering what I should do. Currently I have been set and applying with an anthropology major and will have all of my IGETC and anthro major req requirements complete this Fall 2011 semester, but the issue I am having is with choosing another major instead. I have investigated UCLA’s Ethnomusicology major and really find grand interest in that, But the thing is that I know if I try to apply with an ethnomusicology major I will also be stating something of that sort for all of the UC’s I am applying too. I also know that for UCLA there is a separate audition and supplemental application process. I believe for Berkeley you just have to do the regular application process and for UCSD’s Music Humanites major also. I am really not sure what to do, I am pretty confident with my applying in anthropology, but ethnomusicology is like anthropology in respect to music, and I love music. I do sing and have fair understandings with music theory, but I am just really nervous whether or not to take the risk and apply with music. Can anyone please give me some input and advice, it is most appreciated. I am freaking out! Thanks :)

Do you have an idea what you want to do for a career?

@uclacee Thanks for replying! Okay, so I am not set on a career path, which I guess is kind of unfortunate because I know what I am interested in, but don’t know how I could apply it to life. For example with anthropology I don’t really know what I would do with that degree, I just know that I love learning about cultures and and how they work within their contexts. And in regards to music, I’ve just loved it all my life as well and as I’ve been introduced to several cultures I have also found great interests in how music is interpreted throughout the world. I definitely want to work with people globally I guess. It really is hard to pin point though. Still thanks again for replying!

It’s great you decided to ask a question, but did you have to post it in the middle of my board where it’s off topic and where nobody will probably read it?

You could’ve just posted a new thread.

ah, they must have assumed that the fee was standard at all the parking lots. (i did the same) i actually think i went to lot 4 originally (this is the one by the SoD right? went there and every space was completely taken. When i finally found a floor with plenty of parking, there were no numbers behind the spaces, and i think i saw permits in the other cars, and i was pretty sure my car was going to get ticketed/towed if i left it there so i left and was left with lot 18 as my only option.)

i should note that friday was considerably better. Was able to find decent parking on olympic. Then i took the culver 6 straight to school (10min busride and it only cost .50 cents)

sorry, i didn’t know how

Anthro is one of the more solid north campus majors, in my opinion. You are correct that there aren’t many jobs for which specifically anthro people are recruited.

For music, it’s one of those things where you have to be one of the best to make a living off of it.

But with either, if you feel that it is your real true passion, you may wish to consider it regardless of job opportunities. But if you want your time here to be “monetarily valuable”, see if you can handle south campus.

When people don’t know what they want to do, imho it’s a bad idea to start college until they do know. But it seems that you’re sufficiently “with it” and you’ll be able to make something happen.

sorry, didn’t realize this was an old thread
