dhl3: you think i need to work on my english comprehension? don't worry about me. my english comprehension skills are just fine. at least, enough to get me into UCLA right out of high school.

perhaps you're the one who needs to work on your english composition skill.

"...I'm sorry to tell you, but Anderson isn't really the "elite among the elites". So it's pretty much a guaranteed deal that I won't go to Anderson. As for Haas of berkeley, I MAY consider it, but big chance that I won't apply there either."

'Arrogant = "I can go to Wharton anytime I want. UCLA is just a cheap school, i can get in there anytime I want. It's below my standard."'

that's not arrogant? of course not. obviously we should understand that your academics are so strong that you shouldn't even consider any schools not ranked in the top five by USNews. obviously, #7 haas and #10 anderson aren't even worth applying to for you. my apologies.

oh ok, so now you are going at it about me attending community college. Did you know that over 40% of UCLA's undergrad's are transfer students? And out of those 40%, over 75% are from cc? You call me arrogant, then I see no reason why I shouldn't call you just as arrogant. You look down on community college students, and seems to have so much pride on the fact that you got into UCLA right out of high school. Oh yeah, and you are so humble.

The reason why I'm not considering Anderson is NOT because it sucks or anything. It's because it has less opportunity to be recruited by the firm of my dream. Even if Anderson ranks lower than Wharton, if McKinsey was to recruit there just as much as they do in Wharton, then sure, I would infact consider Anderson. But that's not the case here. I know that McKinsey is the top class Business Consulting firm and it's extremely hard to get a job there, and that they recruit from top ranking schools, the ultimately best of the best.

And let me capitalize this for you: UCLA IS A VERY GOOD SCHOOL. IT'S NATIONALY RECOGNIZED ELITE CLASS SCHOOL, AND IT'D BE AN HONOR TO BE ACCEPTED THERE. HOWEVER, in my point of view, I do not see it as the same league as Harvard or Wharton or Yale, or Stanford. And infact, many firms do not view it as the same league as the Ivy. Yes, I agree UCLA is one of the best schools in the nation. Yes I agree that Anderson is one of the top 10 business school in the nation. And yes, I agree that Anderson is a VERY prestigious school.

Here's something you are mistaken:

JUST BECAUSE I SAID UCLA IS NOT THE ELITE AMONG THE ELITE DOESNT MEAN I SAID UCLA IS A BAD SCHOOL.

But really, ask ANYONE who doesnt go to UCLA or any of the Ivies. "Which do you consider a more elite class school: Harvard or UCLA? or UPenn or UCLA?" Majority of them will answer "Harvard" and "UPenn". But does that mean UCLA suck? You don't get it.

Why do you view everything as either Black or White? Just because I said one's more elite than others doesnt mean I said one's a cheap poor-quality school. Get that fact straight.

Why are you on here telling us this? If you had a question, I'm pretty sure it was already answered. Good luck with life.

lol!
if that's what you think, then i guess it is ;)
but really, it wasn't my original intent you know.
I never meant it to be a troll thread. :P

Let me let you in on a little secret: NOT EVERYONE CARES ABOUT MCKINSEY.

I got into great graduate programs in my field after only one year of barely substantive work experience. I found that I did just as well as my buddy from Penn in getting what I wanted out of life.

But you know what? I couldn't care less about McKinsey. It's not my concern. So don't go saying that UCLA as a whole isn't some "so-so" school because some company 99% of us don't give a rat's ass about doesn't have a stiffy for it. BFD. UCLA is clearly a GREAT school. End of story.

How come you people only read one thing and just decide to completely ignore the other part?

I've been saying UCLA is a great school for last 10 posts or so, and I already recognized its accomplishment and quality. But I've also said it's not the best, and not in the same league as the ivies. It's a "so-so" school COMPARED TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS, NOT at the national level. At national level, it's considered one of the best. But Ivy schools like Harvard and Yale are considered the BEST OF THE BEST, even more than UCLA.

But you know what? it's pointless to argue this in here.

So i give up. I'll say what all you UCLA people wanted to hear:

UCLA is the BEST, the ultimately BEST school in the WORLD.

happy now? jesus christ... you all just had to hear this.

No. UCLA isn't the best. But UCLA isn't a "so-so" school compared the Ivy League Schools. UCLA is an Ivy League caliber school of the west. Graduate from UCLA and graduate from Harvard and I guarantee you'll find more job opportunities with UCLA here in the west coast. So it isn't a "so-so" school compared to the Ivies, that phrase completely takes away the "ivy-league" caliber that the UCLA institution is of the west coast.

Yes, UCLA isn't Harvard, Princeton, or Yale. But guess what? Neither are Brown, Dartmouth, or Cornell in the eyes of many people. The whole "Ivy" label is extremely loaded and oftentimes disingenuous when used to make comparisons. Stanford isn't an "Ivy," yet I would put it up against any one of them any day of the week.

It's clear that UCLA has a hard time keeping up with Harvard in a variety of areas... especially undergrad. However, the resources are there. So quit worrying that McKinsey doesn't have a recruiting stiffy for UCLA and get a job at another top firm. Then get picked up by McKinsey later.
