How will Brown view my GPA?

I’m currently a junior, and next year I plan to apply ED to Brown. I love the college, and I really think that my application should be fine (2320 SAT, good ECs) except for one thing. My GPA isn’t amazing, and I’ll probably have a 97-98 weighted by the time junior year’s over. But the only reason my GPA isn’t up in the 102s-104s is because of my freshman year grades. Frankly, I didn’t put any effort in until 10th grade. I went from A’s and B+'s in 9th to A’s in 10th to A+'s in 11th.

I recently visited Wesleyan (which i consider to be very similar to Brown), and their dean of admissions said that they really don’t look at the GPA overall, but rather look at your most recent work and signs of maturity. Do you think that, coupled with my essay, recs, ECs, and test scores, I shouldn’t have to worry too much about this? Will they understand that I’ve significantly changed throughout high school, and that who I was two years ago is not who I am today?

GPA is looked by context, particularly your rank (if your school ranks) or your percentile rank. For an Ivy/Top School it’s best to be #1-#5 to stand a pretty good chance, though #1-#10 is good also. If percentile rank, usually most schools go up to Top 10% which you should be, but some use a different system.

My school doesn’t rank.

Well that GPA is good nonetheless, you’re fine.
